CV for an Erasmus Mundus scholarship: what each consortium asks
There is no single Erasmus Mundus CV. Each joint master's consortium sets its own documents: Copernicus Master in Digital Earth asks for an English Europass CV with a photo, while EMLE lists no CV at all. Follow the programme's page.1
Written 13 October 2026. CitedCV. How we write our guides
Start in the EACEA catalogue, then leave it
The EU funds the programmes but does not run a central application. The Erasmus+ students page says you apply directly to the institution running the programme you choose, and the EACEA catalogue sends you to each programme's own website for courses, procedures and scholarships. On 13 October 2026 the catalogue listed 218 projects.
What the EU pages do settle
- Who can apply: students from anywhere with a bachelor's degree, or in the last year of one and graduating before the programme starts.
- When: most programmes take applications between October and January for the following academic year.
- The scholarship: the Programme Guide sets it at 1,400 euros a month multiplied by the programme's duration, and scholarship holders pay no tuition or other mandatory participation costs. No application fees may be charged.
- Who selects: the consortium alone, and selection must be transparent, impartial and equitable.
- Nationality cap: no more than 10% of the scholarships over a project's life may go to candidates of one nationality.
What they leave to each programme
None of the three EU pages we read mentions a CV, a CV format or a page limit. The catalogue also warns that some programmes no longer offer scholarships near the end of their funding period. Both points mean the programme page is the only rulebook.
Three programmes, three different CV rules
We read the application pages of three joint master's programmes on 13 October 2026. They were chosen to show the range, not as a ranking.
| Copernicus Master in Digital Earth | EMLE (Law and Economics) | Euroculture | |
|---|---|---|---|
| CV rule | CV based on the English Europass template, including a passport photo | No CV among the listed application documents | CV listed in the checklist; no format stated |
| Other documents | Passport scan, proof of residency, degree award and diploma supplement, transcript, English proof, optional references, signed declaration | Degree certificate and transcript per degree, one-page motivation letter, at least one recommendation, proof of residence | Degree certificates, transcript, English proof, passport or ID, photo, research papers or theses if applicable, motivation letter |
| How candidates are judged | Overall profile: academic performance, motivation, relevant experience, outreach; online interview | 40% university career, 25% motivation letter, 25% affinity to law and economics, 10% recommendations | Admission criteria on the same page; results four to six weeks after submission |
| 2027 intake dates as published | Call 4: 2 November 2026 to 22 January 2027, 23:59 CET | Opened 1 September 2026; closes 31 December 2026 (non-European) or 15 January 2027 (European) | Scholarships announced for 2027-2029; no window date on the page |
What the table means for your CV
If you apply to several programmes, expect to keep one master set of facts and produce up to three outputs: a Europass version, a free-layout PDF, and no file at all where the form and transcripts carry the record. EMLE's 40% weight on the university career is read from degree certificates and transcripts, not from a CV.
When the programme asks for Europass
Copernicus is precise: the English template from the Europass website, with a passport photo. The Europass editor itself is covered in the Europass guide; this section is about what an Erasmus Mundus committee will look for in it.
Courses and certificates belong on the CV
Copernicus requires competence in Earth Observation and Geoinformatics, gained through work or courses. Its FAQ asks applicants to document extra courses in the CV and upload the certificates as evidence. A course without a certificate is a claim; a course with one is a row the committee can check.
Every project line is an interview question
Copernicus tells shortlisted candidates to be ready for technical questions on the projects and experiences listed in the CV, to show their personal contribution, methods, tools and outcomes, and that they may be asked for proof of practical work. Write each project so you can talk about it for three minutes.
Language levels
Europass records languages on the CEFR grid. Copernicus asks for C1 (IELTS Academic 6.5 or TOEFL iBT 95) or B2 (IELTS 6, TOEFL iBT 78), with B2 possibly accepted on the strength of the interview. Put the test and its date next to the level so the two agree.
Sample rows for a geospatial applicant from Türkiye
The candidate is invented: a geomatics engineering graduate from Konya applying to a geospatial joint master's. Each row names the document that proves it, because Copernicus checks geospatial experience against degrees, transcripts, certificates and work records.
| Europass section | Row | Evidence uploaded |
|---|---|---|
| Education and training | B.Sc. Geomatics Engineering, [University], Konya, 09/2020 to 06/2024; GPA 3.12/4.00; remote sensing and GIS modules listed in the transcript | Diploma, diploma supplement, transcript with certified translation where needed |
| Education and training | Online course, Python for geospatial analysis, 40 hours, completed 03/2025 | Course certificate |
| Work experience | GIS Technician, [Surveying company], Ankara, 09/2024 to present. Built land-parcel layers for 3 municipal cadastre updates | Employer letter |
| Projects | Graduation project: Sentinel-2 crop classification for 1,200 hectares, accuracy assessed against field samples | Project report available for the interview |
| Language skills | English: C1 (IELTS Academic 7.0, 02/2026) | Test report |
| Personal skills | QGIS, ArcGIS Pro, Google Earth Engine (used in the graduation project) | Named in the project report |
Nothing in the sample uses a skill bar or a self-rating, because a committee cannot check either. Each claim has a date and a document.
Rules that matter for applicants from Türkiye
- Türkiye is one of the third countries associated to the Programme. EMLE therefore treats Turkish passport holders as European applicants, with the 15 January 2027 deadline rather than 31 December 2026.
- Copernicus says selected candidates from EU and associated countries, Türkiye included, receive the monthly scholarship for the whole programme, up to 24 months.
- Proof of residence: EMLE wants a document with your name, address and date, issued within 12 months before the deadline; a passport is not accepted.
- Translations: Copernicus requires English translations by court-certified translators, attached to the originals, and a translator outside Austria must be authorised by the Austrian embassy.
- Mobility: EMLE students study in at least two countries, which must differ from their country of residence at enrolment.
Rules are set per consortium and per intake. Check the programme page before you upload.
Limits of this page
Three programmes cannot stand for all of them. We read them on one day, and Copernicus's document page carried a last update of 22 October 2025. An Erasmus+ exchange semester or traineeship is a different scheme run by your home university, with its own forms.
A note on AI-written applications
Copernicus says generic or chatbot-generated text weakens an application and that a verification check may be run. Whatever tools you use, the facts and the wording on a CV should be yours.
Next steps
- Shortlist programmes in the EACEA catalogue, then copy each one's document list into one sheet with its deadline.
- Build the Europass version only where it is required; the Europass guide walks through the editor.
- Write each motivation letter for one programme. Copernicus's form asks why you apply to it rather than other Erasmus Mundus programmes, and its letter questions allow 1,000 characters each.
- CitedCV can produce a free-layout English CV from the facts you enter and keep every line tied to those facts. It does not output the Europass format, so use the Europass editor where that is the rule.
