Fulbright CV: what the Turkish Fulbright Commission asks for
The Fulbright Commission in Türkiye wants an up-to-date English CV uploaded in its Slate form under Academic & Professional Information. Its form guide recommends a PDF of no more than four pages that agrees with the form's own fields.1

Check which grant is open before you write anything
This page covers the grants the Turkish Fulbright Commission offers to citizens of Türkiye, not the US student programme run elsewhere. Each grant has its own page, its own round and its own document list. On 13 October 2026 most were closed and one closed that night.
| Grant | Status on 13 October 2026 | Round and deadline as published | CV item |
|---|---|---|---|
| Master's | Closed | 2027-2028 round; deadline was 10 April 2026, 23:59 | English CV |
| Doctorate | Closed | 2027-2028 round; deadline was 10 April 2026, 23:59 | English CV |
| Academic Research Grant (for PhD holders) | Open | 2027-2028 round; deadline 13 October 2026, 23:59 | English CV, plus a research proposal |
| Foreign Language Teaching Assistant (FLTA) | Closed | 2027-2028 round; deadline was 14 September 2026, 23:59 | No CV in its document list |
If your round is closed
The master's and doctorate pages say the requirements shown are for information only and that the next call will be announced on the site. The rules below are from the 2027-2028 round; use them to prepare, and recheck every line when the new call is posted.
Where the CV sits in the Slate application
The CV is one upload among several. The form guide says to upload it in the Curriculum Vitae/Resume field of the Academic & Professional Information tab, and adds a note that it should not exceed four pages and should be a PDF. The same tab also asks you to type much of what a CV holds, so reviewers will see your history twice.
Form fields that repeat your CV
- Academic background: newest programme first, full names with no abbreviations, and any programme you left without graduating. If you have not graduated, the "To" date is your expected graduation.
- Professional experience: newest first. Internships may be added with Role set to Other and the title saying it was an internship. An ongoing job has no end date.
- Six free-text boxes of at most 250 words each: scholarships held, academic awards with dates, publications (title, venue, date, link), teaching experience, research, and professional memberships.
- Experience abroad: every stay of more than one month, with place, dates and reason.
- Language skills: reading, writing and speaking levels chosen from a menu; the guide says not to pick Native for English unless it is your native language.
Make the two versions agree
A reviewer who reads "2021 to 2025" in the form and "2020 to 2025" in the PDF has a question you are not there to answer. Fill the form from the CV, or the CV from the form, but from one source, and keep the same order: newest first, as the form requires.
Checklist: the master's and PhD package and what it means for your CV
The commission says applications missing any of these documents are not assessed, and that documents sent after submission are not accepted. The right-hand column is our reading of what each item means for the CV.
| Document | What the commission says | What it means for the CV |
|---|---|---|
| Online form | Filled in and submitted in Slate; choose 2027-2028 under Preliminary Questions | Same dates and names as the CV |
| Diploma or student certificate | Officially certified, preferably in English; barcoded e-Devlet documents accepted | Degree names exactly as on the diploma |
| Transcripts | All completed and current programmes, latest as of the end of Fall 2025; the GPA's equivalent out of 4.00 or 100 must be stated | GPA with its scale on the education line |
| Three reference letters | In English, through the system, complete by the deadline; academics preferred, one may come from an employer | The referees' courses or projects appear on the CV |
| English test result | TOEFL iBT 75, IELTS Academic 6, PTE Academic 60, METU İYS 75 or BÜYES C, valid at the deadline | Test name, score and month |
| English CV | Most recent version, uploaded in the Curriculum Vitae/Resume field; guide recommends PDF, at most 4 pages | The document this page is about |
| ID copy and photo | Front and back of the ID card, one recent passport photo | No photo needed on the CV itself |
| Proof of work | Only for MBA and business sub-fields: at least one year of full-time work; SGK record or an official employer letter | Dated job rows that add up to the year |
Documents the commission will not assess
The master's package guide lists three things not to send because they will not be evaluated: sample theses or articles, certificates from various trainings, and honour certificates. Anything worth knowing from them has to be on the CV or in the form's 250-word award and publication boxes.
Calls change every year. Read the grant page for your round before you upload.
Sample CV section for a Fulbright master's applicant
The applicant is invented: an urban planning graduate from Izmir applying for a US master's. Each row shows a line and the form field or document that backs it.
| CV line (English) | Matches in the application |
|---|---|
| B.Sc. City and Regional Planning, [University], Izmir, 09/2020 to 06/2024. GPA 3.38/4.00 | Academic background; transcript showing the 4.00 scale |
| Graduation project: "Flood-risk zoning for two coastal districts", supervisor [Professor], grade AA | Research box; the supervisor is one of three referees |
| Assistant Planner, [Municipality] Planning Department, Izmir, 08/2024 to present. Drafted 6 zoning amendment reports for council review | Professional experience, no end date |
| Intern, [Planning firm], Istanbul, 07/2023 to 08/2023 | Professional experience, Role: Other, title marked as internship |
| Erasmus+ exchange, [University], Lisbon, 02/2023 to 06/2023 | Experience abroad (more than one month) |
| IELTS Academic 7.0, 01/2026 | Test score report, valid two years from the test date |
| Faculty high-honour list, 2022 and 2023 | Academic awards box, with dates |
Why the lines are written this way
Every row has a month and year, because the form asks for dates and the reviewer compares them. The GPA carries its scale, because the commission reads the 4.00 figure when a transcript shows both. The honour list is a CV row, not an upload, because honour certificates are on the list of documents not assessed.
Thresholds on the 2027-2028 pages, read on 13 October 2026
| Rule | Master's | Doctorate |
|---|---|---|
| Minimum GPA | 3.00 out of 4.00, or 76.66 out of 100 | 3.50 out of 4.00, or 88.33 out of 100 |
| Whose GPA counts | Bachelor's; with a minor or double major, the department closest to the US field | Master's GPA if you hold one; bachelor's for integrated PhD |
| Funding | Up to $60,000 a year, for at most two academic years | Up to $60,000 a year, covering the first two years |
| Admission to a US university | Not required to apply | Not required to apply |
| GRE or GMAT | Not required to apply; nominees may need them | Not required to apply; nominees may need them |
Rules that sit outside the CV but decide eligibility
There is no upper age limit. Clinical sub-fields of medicine, dentistry, veterinary science and psychology are excluded, and law graduates may apply only for an LLM, not a JD. After the grant, the J-1 visa rule requires returning to Türkiye for two years. Interviews for the 2027-2028 round were set from June 2026.
Who this page is not for
- US citizens and Green Card holders, who cannot apply to these grants.
- Academics applying for the Academic Research Grant: the CV is required, but the research proposal (at most 5 pages and 3,500 words, plus an anonymous Word copy) carries the application, and you need at least five years since your doctorate.
- FLTA applicants: the teaching-assistant programme has its own eligibility rules on English teaching degrees and pedagogical certificates.
- Anyone applying to US universities directly without Fulbright: each university sets its own CV rules.
Next steps
- Write the Study/Research Objectives and the Personal Statement. The form guide says neither may name the universities you want to attend; the motivation letter guide covers the structure.
- Ask three referees early and check that the system email reached them; the reference guide covers how to ask.
- If your CV is in Turkish, convert it properly rather than word for word; the Turkish-to-English CV guide covers the changes.
- CitedCV can write the English CV from the facts you enter or upload and keep each line tied to those facts, which makes it easier to copy the same dates into the Slate form.
Questions people ask
What format should a Fulbright CV be?
An English CV, uploaded as a file in the Slate form. The Turkish commission's form guide recommends a PDF of no more than four pages.
How many pages should a Fulbright CV be?
No more than four pages, according to the Fulbright Türkiye form guide. That is a recommendation in the guide rather than a stated rejection rule.
Should I list certificates on my Fulbright CV?
Yes, if they are relevant. The commission will not assess uploaded training certificates or honour certificates, so the CV and the award box are where they count.
What GPA do I need for a Fulbright master's from Türkiye?
At least 3.00 out of 4.00 or 76.66 out of 100 in the 2027-2028 round. The doctorate grant asks for 3.50 or 88.33.
Does my Fulbright CV need a photo?
No photo is required on the CV. The commission asks for one recent passport photo as a separate upload with your ID copy.
Can my Fulbright references come from employers?
One of the three can. The commission prefers academics who taught or worked with you, and allows one letter from a workplace or internship.
Do I need a US university admission before applying to Fulbright?
No, admission is not required to apply. If you already hold one, the commission says you may defer it to the grant year.
When is the next Fulbright master's deadline in Türkiye?
Not yet published. The 2027-2028 round closed on 10 April 2026, and the commission says it will announce the next call on its site.
