Customer service CV example: metrics a recruiter can read, and languages with levels

On a customer service CV, name your channels and daily volume, give two or three metrics with their target and period, such as handle time or CSAT, and list each language with a level.1

Pull your numbers from the dashboard you already use

Before writing, open the report your team leader shows you each week and copy three things for the last six or twelve months: your figure, the team target, and how the tool defines the metric. Contact-centre software names look alike but are calculated differently, and a recruiter who has run a floor will ask.

  1. Write down the channels you handled: phone, chat, email, social media or in person.
  2. Note a typical daily or weekly volume, from the report, not from memory.
  3. Pick the two or three metrics you were scored on and record your figure, the target and the period.
  4. Check the definition in the tool’s help page or with your supervisor, so you can explain the number in one sentence.
  5. Keep any QA scorecard or award email that backs a figure up.

Contact-centre metrics, defined by the tools that calculate them

These definitions come from Microsoft’s Dynamics 365 Customer Service documentation and Zendesk’s help centre. Your employer’s system may differ, which is exactly why the CV line should say what was measured.

MetricHow the vendor defines itHow to write it on a CV
AHT (average handle time)Microsoft: time spent actively helping customers, including wrap-up after the customer disconnects and updating notes, but not time colleagues spend consulting; total divided by conversations handledAHT 5:40 against a 6:00 target, inbound billing queue, 2025
Wrap-up time (after-call work)Microsoft: time from the start of wrap-up until the representative closes the conversation, such as documenting and updating customer detailsCut average wrap-up from 70 to 45 seconds by using call notes templates
Average speed to answerMicrosoft: average seconds for a representative to accept a conversation once it reaches the queueUsually a team figure; mention only if you led the team or the rota
Service levelMicrosoft: share of conversations answered within a threshold; 800 of 1,000 calls answered within 10 seconds is 80%Team answered 80% of calls within 20 seconds through peak season
Transfer rateMicrosoft: transferred conversations divided by total conversationsTransfer rate 6% against a team average of 11%
CSATZendesk: good ratings divided by survey responses, as a percentage; on a 1 to 5 scale, 4 and 5 count as good. Microsoft: the average of the ratings customers gaveCSAT 92% good ratings (Zendesk, 1,800 responses, 2025) or CSAT 4.6 out of 5

Why one CSAT can be written two ways

A Zendesk score is a percentage of good ratings; a Dynamics 365 score is an average rating. "CSAT 92" means nothing until the reader knows which, so add the unit: a percent sign and "good ratings", or "out of 5". Adding the number of responses shows the figure is not based on a handful of surveys.

A metric without its target is half a line

Handle time is a trade-off: very short calls can mean customers call back. Write it next to the target your centre set, and pair it with a quality measure such as CSAT or QA score, so the reader sees you were fast without cutting corners.

Sample CV section: bilingual contact-centre adviser (example)

Example only. The person, employer and figures are invented to show the form. Use your own figures from your own reports.

  • Elif Demir, Customer Service Adviser. Istanbul. Email, phone.
  • Customer Service Adviser, a telecom operator’s contact centre, Jun 2023 to present. Inbound billing and plan-change queue in Turkish and English, about 60 calls and 25 chats a day.
  • AHT 5:40 against a 6:00 target and CSAT 92% good ratings across 1,800 survey responses in 2025; QA score above 90 for 10 of 12 months.
  • Moved to the English-language queue after 4 months; handled roaming and international billing complaints for visiting customers.
  • Trained 6 new starters on the CRM and the refund process; wrote the call-notes template the team now uses.
  • Retail Sales Assistant, a phone shop, 2021 to 2023: plan sales, device returns and complaints at the counter.
  • Tools: Salesforce Service Cloud, Genesys softphone, Microsoft Excel and Outlook. Languages: Turkish (native), English (C1), German (B1).

The entry-level version

The National Careers Service says you can apply directly if you have customer service experience from a shop, bank, hotel or contact centre. Without contact-centre metrics, use what a shop or hotel measured: queries per shift, complaints resolved at the counter, mystery-shopper scores, returns processed. The structure stays the same: channel, volume, a measured result.

Languages: give each one a level and a use

A language on a service CV is worth most when the reader can see you worked in it. Give the CEFR level or an exam result, then say what you did in that language: which queue, which customers, which documents. "English (C1), handled the international roaming queue" beats "fluent English".

  • Native language first, written as native, not as a level.
  • Other languages with a CEFR level or exam score; the guide on CEFR levels shows the format.
  • One line per language you worked in, naming the queue or channel.
  • Leave out languages you could not take a complaint call in; a phone call is the test.

What employers check first, and the skills behind it

The BLS says a high school diploma is typical and training is short, usually two to four weeks on the job, longer in finance and insurance, where some representatives need a state licence. The National Careers Service lists GCSEs in English and maths, communication and IT skills, and a friendly personality. Put the proof of those near the top.

Qualifications worth listing

In England, the National Careers Service names the Customer Service Practitioner Level 2 and Customer Service Specialist Level 3 apprenticeships and membership of The Institute of Customer Service. In Türkiye, MYK has a Level 4 national qualification for call-centre customer representatives, awarded after theory and performance exams. In the US, a finance or insurance licence goes first if the job needs one.

Proof: sources read on 13 October 2026

We read each source on 13 October 2026. The BLS counts 2,666,000 customer service representative jobs in 2025, a median wage of $44,770 in May 2025 and a projected 5% decline from 2025 to 2035. The National Careers Service gives £20,000 for starters to £30,000 for experienced customer service assistants. Metric definitions come from Microsoft Learn pages updated in 2026 and Zendesk help articles updated in 2026. MYK's call-centre standard (13UMS0314-4) was published in the Official Gazette on 6 December 2018.

Where this layout does not fit

  • Team leaders and supervisors: lead with team size, team results and coaching, not your own handle time.
  • Technical support and helpdesk roles: the systems you supported and the ticket types matter more than CSAT.
  • Outbound sales roles: conversion and revenue against target replace handle time.

Applying abroad

Multilingual service jobs are often the first job abroad. The CEFR guide covers language levels, the UK CV format guide covers British conventions, and the jobs-abroad checklist covers photos and personal details. CitedCV can write the CV in English, Turkish or German from the figures you enter; it does not know your centre’s targets, so give it the numbers from your reports.

Questions people ask

What is AHT on a customer service resume?

Average handle time: the average time you spent per contact; in Microsoft’s definition it includes wrap-up after the customer leaves. Write it next to your centre’s target.

Should I put my CSAT score on my CV?

Yes, if it is good against your team, with the unit: percent of good ratings or average out of 5, and the number of responses.

What is a good average handle time to put on a resume?

There is no universal figure; it depends on the queue. Show yours against the target your centre set and pair it with a quality score.

How do I describe call center experience on a resume?

Name the channels, the queue, the daily volume and two or three metrics with targets, then one improvement you made to a process.

How do I list languages on a customer service resume?

Give each language a CEFR level or exam score and say which queue or customers you served in it; put your native language first.

Do I need a qualification to work in customer service?

Usually not. The BLS says a high school diploma is typical with short on-the-job training, though finance and insurance roles may need a licence.

What does after-call work mean?

It is the time after the customer hangs up spent on notes, forms and follow-up, when you cannot take another call.
