Which German national visas need a CV, and what must it show?

Fourteen of the national visa sheets the German missions in Türkiye publish ask for a Lebenslauf; four want it without gaps. Each CV line should match a diploma, SGK record or contract in your file, because those documents prove it.1

Written 13 October 2026. CitedCV. How we write our guides

First step: find the sheet for your exact visa category

The German Embassy in Ankara and the Consulates General in Istanbul and Izmir publish one information sheet (Merkblatt) per long-stay visa category for Turkish citizens. Each sheet is a checklist. Open the one for your purpose and copy the exact CV wording into your notes: 'Lebenslauf', 'lückenloser Lebenslauf' (without gaps) and 'lückenloser tabellarischer Lebenslauf' (tabular, without gaps) are three different requests.

Check the online portal before the sheets

The missions' page says their sheets cover only the categories that are not available in the Auslandsportal (digital.diplo.de). The EU Blue Card, work visas for skilled workers whose qualification is recognised in Germany, the Chancenkarte, and study visas are applied for in that portal, which shows its own document list for your case. If your category is there, the sheets below do not apply to you.

Where iDATA fits in

The missions work only with the external providers iDATA and IOM-FAP. iDATA books the appointment or sends you to the portal, and in some cases accepts the application and forwards it to the visa section, which decides. The page lists an iDATA service fee of 39.92 euros and/or a booking fee of 12 euros, payable in Turkish lira. The visa fee itself is usually 75 euros, according to the sheets.

How the CV works inside a national visa file

Every sheet asks for originals plus one plain copy, and for German translations of Turkish documents made by sworn translators. The CV is the only paper in the file that tells your whole story in order. The diploma covers your studies, the SGK record covers insured work, the employer's letter covers the new job. The CV lists the same periods, so the visa officer can lay each document next to the line it belongs to.

What the sheets ask for next to the CV

  • Proof of previous work, for example employer certificates, references and the SGK record with barcode (sheets 30F, 32F and 44F).
  • Degree certificates with a translation, and the graduation certificate with barcode from e-Devlet (30F and 44F).
  • For vocational training: the e-Devlet graduation certificate (mezun belgesi) and the transcript (not döküm belgesi) (51F).
  • An employment contract or a concrete job offer, plus the employer's signed 'Erklärung zum Beschäftigungsverhältnis' (17F, 25F, 26F, 32F).
  • A self-written motivation letter where the sheet requires one (44F, 56, 57).

What 'lückenlos' means in practice

The sheets do not define the word. Our reading: every month from leaving school to today sits on some line, whether it was study, a job, military service, a language course, caring for family or looking for work. A period that shows up in your SGK record but not on the CV, or the reverse, is the kind of mismatch the officer can see without asking you.

Signature and date

None of the Türkiye sheets we read says the CV must be signed. The application form must be signed by the applicant from the age of 18. The place, date and signature line of a German CV is covered on the main German CV format page; adding it does no harm, but it is not on these checklists.

Why accuracy matters more than polish

Section 54(2) no. 8 of the Residence Act lists false or incomplete statements made to obtain a German residence title or visa as a reason that weighs in favour of expulsion, once the person has been told of the consequences. A CV that rounds up a job by six months is a statement in a visa file.

The fourteen Türkiye sheets that ask for a CV

We opened every national visa sheet linked from the missions’ work, training and internship pages on 12 October 2026. These fourteen list a CV:

Sheets that list no CV include 13, 14, 14F, 15F, 21F (native-language teachers), 23F (researchers), 31F (care assistants), the internship sheets 46F, 47F and 48F, and the school sheets 33 and 34. A CV you add anyway is not a fault, but it is not on the checklist.

Each CV line and the document that proves it

This is the table to work through before your appointment. The sample lines are for an invented applicant from Izmir; replace them with your own facts and keep the same pairing.

Three mismatches to fix before the appointment

  1. Dates in years only. Write months (MM/YYYY), because SGK records and certificates carry days and months.
  2. Different job titles. If your contract says one title and your CV another, use the contract wording and add your own description underneath.
  3. Unpaid or unregistered work. If a job is not in your SGK record, say so on the line (for example "informal, not registered") and bring whatever else proves it.

Sources we read and the date

  • The missions’ page on national visas for Turkish citizens, with the iDATA fees and the note on the Auslandsportal (read 12 October 2026).
  • The work page listing which categories go through the portal, and the sheets for skilled workers, employment without a qualification, internships and self-employment (read 12 October 2026).
  • Sheets 16F, 17F, 22F, 25F, 26F, 30F, 32F, 44F, 51F, 54F, 55, 56, 57 and 58, each opened and checked for the CV line on 12 October 2026.
  • Section 54 of the Residence Act (AufenthG) on gesetze-im-internet.de (read 12 October 2026).

Sheets change without notice. Open the linked sheet for your category again in the week of your appointment.

Limits of this page

  • It covers Turkish citizens applying in Türkiye. Non-Turkish citizens living in Türkiye use a separate appointment system and their own page.
  • Portal categories (Blue Card, recognised skilled workers, Chancenkarte, study) follow the list the portal shows. The Blue Card salary rules are on the EU Blue Card page, and the Chancenkarte points are on their own page.
  • Short Schengen visits are a different visa and are not covered here.
  • We could not open the iDATA website itself on 12 October 2026, so everything about iDATA here comes from the missions’ own page.

Next steps

Once the table above has no empty cells, write the CV itself. The German CV format page covers the layout and section order, and the application documents page covers translations and file order. CitedCV can draft the CV in German with German date conventions from facts you enter and confirm; you still check every line against your documents and add the signature yourself.

  • Applying with a job offer as a skilled worker or Blue Card holder: start in the Auslandsportal.
  • Coming to look for work: read the Chancenkarte page.
  • Coming as an au pair: the au pair page covers sheet 57 and the CV in detail.

Questions people ask

Do I need a CV for a German national visa?

Often, yes. Fourteen of the sheets published by the German missions in Türkiye list a Lebenslauf, including those for specialists, executives, drivers, au pairs, language courses and volunteer service.

What should a CV for the German embassy include?

Every period since school with month and year, each matching a document in your file: diplomas, SGK record, employer letters, the contract and language certificates. Four sheets require the CV to have no gaps.

What is a lückenloser Lebenslauf for a visa?

It is a CV without gaps. The sheets do not define it further; in practice every month after school belongs to a line, including military service, job searching or courses.

Does the CV for a German visa need to be signed?

Not according to the Türkiye sheets we read on 12 October 2026. The application form must be signed; signing and dating the CV as well is a German convention, not a checklist item.

Do I need a CV for a German job seeker visa?

The job search route is now the Chancenkarte, applied for in the Auslandsportal. The Chancenkarte page lists what other German missions ask for, including a tabular CV.

Should the visa CV be in German or English?

German is the safer choice. The Türkiye sheets do not state a CV language, but they ask for sworn German translations of Turkish documents, and a German CV avoids that question.

Will the embassy compare my CV with my SGK record?

The sheets ask for both, so the officer has them side by side. Make sure start and end months on the CV match your SGK entries and employer letters.

Can I use a Europass CV for the German visa?

Yes, if it is complete and matches your documents; the sheets name no format. Only sheet 44F asks specifically for a tabular CV, so check that your periods run in date order with months.
