Work and Holiday visa (462) from Türkiye: who qualifies and the resume to write
Turkish citizens aged 18 to 30 qualify for the Work and Holiday (subclass 462) visa with a degree or two years of university, functional English and a Turkish government support letter. The resume then shows work rights, dates and postcodes.1

First step: check that the Türkiye cap is open, then book an English test
Home Affairs grants a fixed number of first 462 visas to each partner country every program year, which runs from 1 July to 30 June. Its 'Status of country caps' page, last updated 12 October 2026, listed Türkiye as Open with an annual cap of 100 when we read it on 20 October 2026. A cap can be paused and reopened, or closed until applications reopen on 2 July. Türkiye is not in the ballot, which applies to China, India and Vietnam.
- Open the caps page and confirm Türkiye still shows Open. A paused or closed cap gives an error message when you try to apply.
- Work out your age deadline: you must lodge before midnight Australian Eastern time on the day before your 31st birthday.
- Collect proof of your degree or of two completed years of undergraduate study, with English translations of anything issued in Turkish.
- Sit an approved English test in a test centre. Home Affairs only accepts a result from the 12 months before you apply and does not accept at-home tests.
- Ask the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs for the government letter of support. Home Affairs names the ministry; we found no official Turkish page describing the procedure, so ask the ministry how to request it.
- Prepare evidence of funds, usually about AUD5,000, plus the fare out of Australia or the onward ticket itself.
- Apply online in ImmiAccount while outside Australia, and book nothing until the grant: Home Affairs expects most decisions to take around three months.
How subclass 462 works for a Turkish passport holder
What the visa allows
You must enter Australia within 12 months of the grant. From the day you land you can stay 12 months, leave and come back as often as you like, study for up to 4 months (17 weeks) and do any kind of work. You pay tax on what you earn, and an employer must pay superannuation into a fund once you earn above a set amount; Home Affairs says you can claim it when you leave. Dependent children cannot come with you at any point, not even for a day.
The education rule, read for Turkish qualifications
For Türkiye the rule is a tertiary qualification from a university, college or training centre, or two completed years of undergraduate university study. Degrees, graduate certificates and diplomas are acceptable; Certificates I to IV and a senior secondary certificate are not, so a lise diploma on its own does not qualify. Home Affairs does not say how it treats a Turkish two-year önlisans diploma and refers applicants to the Australian embassy's visa pages for detail.
Functional English: one score is safe, the rest changed
IELTS (Academic or General Training) with an average band of at least 4.5 is accepted on both Home Affairs pages we read. For other tests the 462 page still prints the older scores, while the Functional English page, updated 21 September 2026, lists the tests approved from 7 August 2025: PTE Academic 24, TOEFL iBT 26 (registered as 'Taking TOEFL for Australia'), CELPIP General 5, Michigan English Test 38 and LANGUAGECERT Academic 38. Because the result must be under 12 months old, a test you take now falls under the newer list. Two years of full-time study for a degree or diploma taught entirely in English, in or outside Australia, also counts.
Translations, not apostilles
Every non-English document goes in with an English translation. A translator outside Australia does not need to be accredited, but must add their full name, address, telephone number and their qualifications and experience in the language, in English. For online applications Home Affairs says you do not need to have any documents certified.
The six-month rule for one employer
The 462 visa page still says that usually you can only work for the same employer for 6 months. This is visa condition 8547, and the six months run in calendar time from your first day, whatever your hours. Since 1 January 2024, and until the Government decides otherwise, the condition does not bite in these cases:
- the same employer at different locations, with no more than six months at any one of them
- plant and animal cultivation, such as harvesting, packing and pruning, anywhere in Australia
- natural disaster recovery work anywhere in Australia
- the critical sectors anywhere in Australia: agriculture, food processing, health, aged and disability care, childcare, and tourism and hospitality, which includes cafés, restaurants, pubs, hotels and hostels
- fishing and pearling, tree farming and felling, construction and mining in northern Australia only
Specified work: what earns a second and third visa
A second 462 visa needs 3 months of specified work, meaning at least 88 calendar days of full-time-equivalent work done on the first visa; a third needs 6 months, or 179 days, done on the second. The work must be paid at the lawful rate, and only certain jobs in certain postcodes count:
- tourism and hospitality in Northern Australia or Remote and Very Remote Australia, for example a chef or a hotel guest service agent; a café job in a big city does not count
- plant and animal cultivation in Northern Australia and listed regional postcodes, such as picking fruit or feeding cattle; winemaking, brewing and general garden maintenance do not count
- construction in Northern Australia and listed regional postcodes
- fishing and pearling, and tree farming and felling, in Northern Australia only
- bushfire and natural disaster recovery in declared areas, which may be paid or volunteer work
Every Northern Territory postcode is on the Northern Australia list, so hospitality work there counts; South Australia is listed in full for farm and construction work only. Queensland postcodes 4798 to 4812 are also in the Northern Australia table. Home Affairs points to the Workforce Australia jobs board for harvest vacancies and tells applicants not to leave specified work until the end of their stay.
Sample resume: a Turkish 462 holder going for café, then farm work
The applicant is invented. Elif Aydın, 24, finished a tourism degree in 2025, holds an IELTS General Training result from 2026 and lands in Sydney in January 2027. She wants barista shifts first and a farm season later, so her second visa stays possible. Section order follows our Australian resume format guide; only the lines a 462 holder needs are added here.
| Section | Version 1: Sydney, week one |
|---|---|
| Personal details | Elif Aydın · Sydney NSW · 0400 000 000 · elif.aydin@example.com |

| Summary | Tourism graduate with two summer seasons on the coffee machine at a busy beach café; looking for barista or floor shifts now and harvest or packing work later in the year. |
| Experience | Barista (seasonal), Örnek Beach Café, Çeşme, İzmir (Türkiye), 06/2024 to 09/2024 and 06/2025 to 09/2025: up to 300 coffees on a weekend morning; counted and closed the till at the end of the day. |

Version 2, written for a farm in September 2027
| Section | What changes |
|---|---|
| Summary | Barista with seven months in a Sydney café, ready for full-time harvest or packing work for at least 88 days. |
| Experience (new, on top) | Barista, Örnek Espresso Bar, Sydney NSW, 02/2027 to 08/2027: opened the café alone on weekdays; trained two new staff. |
| Availability | Available from 01/09/2027, 5 days a week until mid-January 2028; own boots and hat; happy to share transport |
| Referees | Add the Sydney café manager first; an Australian supervisor answers questions about local work |
Seven months at one café is allowed because hospitality is exempt from the six-month limit, but Sydney is not on the specified-work lists. After the season she adds one more line: 'Fruit picker and packer, Örnek Mango Farm, QLD 4805, 09/2027 to 12/2027, piece rate under a signed agreement, 5 days a week'. Postcode 4805 is inside the 4798 to 4812 range Home Affairs lists as Northern Australia.
Why dates, postcodes and pay basis go on every Australian line
For a second visa Home Affairs asks for proof covering all the periods you worked: pay slips or Australian bank statements, a piece rate agreement showing the rate per piece, payment summaries, tax returns or employer references, and it may contact your employers. A resume whose dates, places and pay basis match those papers is easy to check. The postcode also tells a regional employer you already know which jobs count.
The RSA line for bar and café work
Rules on serving alcohol are set by each state. In New South Wales, RSA training is mandatory for anyone selling, serving or supplying alcohol, it is delivered by an Approved Training Provider in a classroom or online, and the interim certificate lets you work for 90 days while you apply for the competency card. Check the rules of the state you will work in.

Who this guide does not cover
- People who have already entered Australia on a 462 or 417 visa: the first visa is closed to them, and the second visa page applies instead.
- Anyone 31 or older on the lodgement deadline, or travelling with a dependent child.
- Students and skilled migrants: student work limits and skills assessments have their own guides.
- Holders of a second passport from a 417 country: this page reads only the rules for a Turkish passport.
- Visa advice for your case. Home Affairs says only a registered migration agent, a legal practitioner or an exempt person may give immigration assistance.
