DevOps and cloud engineer CV example with certificates and IaC
A DevOps or cloud engineer CV names the platforms you ran, the infrastructure you defined as code, and delivery results such as deployment frequency or recovery time. Cloud certificates go in with their current official name, issue month and expiry.1
Written 13 October 2026. CitedCV. How we write our guides
Before writing: export your delivery numbers
Open your CI/CD history and your incident tracker before you open the CV. The DORA metrics guide defines five delivery metrics, and each can usually be counted from tools you already have.
| DORA metric | Definition (DORA) | Where to count it |
|---|---|---|
| Change lead time | Time from a change committed to version control to deployed in production | Commit and deploy timestamps in the pipeline |
| Deployment frequency | Number of deployments in a period, or time between deployments | Deploy job history |
| Failed deployment recovery time | Time to recover from a deployment that fails and needs immediate intervention | Incident tickets linked to releases |
| Change fail rate | Share of deployments that need immediate intervention | Rollbacks and hotfixes divided by deploys |
| Deployment rework rate | Share of deployments that are unplanned and caused by a production incident | Hotfix deploys divided by all deploys |
Take a before and an after for the one or two metrics you actually moved. A CV that quotes all five reads like a dashboard; one that shows a single metric changing because of your work reads like an engineer.
What the DevOps engineer standard expects
England's official occupational standard for a DevOps engineer (ST0825, Level 4, on the Skills England occupational map) describes the role as bringing together the people who build software and those who support it live, from a cloud-infrastructure perspective, and taking responsibility for design, build, test, release and continual iteration. It lists typical job titles: Automation Engineer, Build and Release Engineer, Deployment Engineer, DevOps Engineer, Infrastructure Engineer, Platform Engineer, Reliability Engineer and Site Reliability Engineer.
The standard's knowledge list is a ready-made checklist for a CV. Each item below is paraphrased from it, with the kind of line that shows it.
| Standard item | What it covers | A CV line that evidences it |
|---|---|---|
| K1 | Continuous integration: frequent merging, build artefacts, passing tests, automation | Pipeline you built, merge-to-artefact time |
| K5 | Security tools: threat modelling, vulnerability and dependency scanning | Scanner added to the pipeline and what it blocked |
| K7 | General-purpose programming and infrastructure as code | Terraform or similar modules you wrote, and what they manage |
| K8 | Immutable infrastructure and continuous patching | Images rebuilt on a schedule instead of patched in place |
| K11 | Monitoring, alerting thresholds, logs and metrics | Alerts you tuned and the noise or misses you removed |
| K12 | The data layer and recovery plans | Backup and restore you tested, with the restore time |
Platform, SRE or DevOps title
Because the standard groups these titles under one occupation, keep the title your employer gave you and let the bullets show the work. Changing "Infrastructure Engineer" to "SRE" on the CV will not survive a reference check.
Cloud and platform certificates, as the issuers publish them
All facts in this table come from each issuer's own page, read on 13 October 2026. Prices exclude tax; Microsoft prices exams by the country where they are taken.
| Certificate | Exam facts | Validity |
|---|---|---|
| AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Associate | 150 USD, 130 minutes, 65 questions; about 1 year of hands-on AWS design suggested | 3 years |
| AWS Certified CloudOps Engineer, Associate (formerly SysOps Administrator, Associate) | SOA-C03, 150 USD, 130 minutes, 65 questions; about 1 year operating AWS workloads | 3 years |
| AWS Certified DevOps Engineer, Professional | 300 USD, 180 minutes, 75 questions; 2 or more years on AWS recommended | 3 years |
| Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate | Exam AZ-104, 100 minutes | Renew every 12 months with a free online assessment |
| Microsoft Certified: DevOps Engineer Expert | Exam AZ-400, plus Azure Administrator Associate or Azure Developer Associate first | Must be renewed; free online assessment |
| Google Cloud Associate Cloud Engineer | 125 USD, 2 hours, 50 to 60 questions; 6+ months on Google Cloud | 3 years (1 year if renewed through Google Skills) |
| Google Cloud Professional Cloud DevOps Engineer | 200 USD, 2 hours, 50 to 60 questions; 3+ years in industry incl. 1+ year on Google Cloud | Renewal rules on Google's FAQ |
| Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA), Linux Foundation | 445 USD exam only, 2 hours, performance-based at a command line | 2 years |
| HashiCorp Terraform Associate | One-hour multiple-choice exam; tests Terraform 1.12 | Not stated on the page we read |
Writing a certificate entry
- The name exactly as the issuer prints it, then the issuer.
- Month and year earned, and "valid until" with the month.
- A credential ID or verification link if the issuer gives one; a 2026 Turkish public-sector notice from the defence industry agency (SSB), for example, made candidates supply the number and verification address.
- Expired certificates: drop them, or move them to a short "previous" line with the dates. Never list one as current.
Renaming and renewal traps
AWS renamed the SysOps Administrator, Associate to CloudOps Engineer, Associate, but its page says the new name applies only to people who pass the SOA-C03 exam; an older SysOps certificate keeps its name and stays valid for 3 years from the date earned. Write the name on your own certificate. AWS also offers two renewal routes: passing the latest or a higher exam renews for 3 years, while a maintenance route through a Skill Builder subscription adds 1 year.
Example: DevOps and cloud engineer CV section
Example only. Mert Aydın and both employers are invented; the numbers show the form of a line, not a benchmark.
DevOps Engineer, a logistics software company, 06/2023 to present
- Moved 46 services from hand-built virtual machines to Amazon EKS in 3 environments, defined in 31 Terraform modules reviewed through pull requests.
- Rebuilt delivery on GitHub Actions and Argo CD: median change lead time fell from 6 days to under 1 day; deployment frequency rose from a weekly release to about 15 deploys a day.
- Added automated rollback on error-rate alerts; failed deployment recovery time fell from about 2 hours to 12 minutes over two quarters.
- Put Trivy image scanning in the pipeline and blocked builds with critical findings; production images carried no known critical CVEs from Q3 2025.
- Rightsized node groups and moved nightly batch jobs to Spot capacity; monthly compute spend down 27%.
Linux Systems Administrator, a hosting provider, 02/2020 to 05/2023
- Replaced manual server builds with Ansible roles for 210 Linux hosts; a new host went from 1 day to 25 minutes.
- Ran monthly restore tests for PostgreSQL backups; documented a 40-minute restore for the largest customer database.
Certificates block for the same CV
- AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Associate. Amazon Web Services. 05/2024, valid until 05/2027.
- AWS Certified SysOps Administrator, Associate. Amazon Web Services. 09/2024, valid until 09/2027 (earned before the CloudOps rename, so listed under its own name).
- Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA). The Linux Foundation. 11/2025, valid until 11/2027.
Infrastructure-as-code lines that say what the code manages
"Terraform" in a skills list tells a reader nothing about scale. A line should give the tool, what it manages, how many of it, and how changes are reviewed.
| Thin line | Line a platform lead can check (illustrative) |
|---|---|
| Used Terraform | Wrote Terraform modules for VPCs, EKS node groups and RDS used by 4 product teams; all changes through plan output in pull requests |
| Kubernetes experience | Ran 3 EKS clusters (about 400 pods at peak); upgraded 2 minor versions with no customer-facing downtime |
| Monitoring | Cut paging alerts from about 60 a week to 9 by deleting duplicate rules and adding latency-based thresholds |
| CI/CD | Built one reusable pipeline template adopted by 23 repositories; build time median 7 minutes |
Cloud names in the skills block
List the cloud, then the services you actually configured, not the whole catalogue: "AWS (EKS, RDS, IAM, CloudWatch)". If you used a provider only through Terraform, say so; it answers the question an interviewer will ask.

When this page is the wrong one
- Most of your time goes into application code and APIs: use the backend developer page.
- You monitor alerts for attacks rather than outages, in a SOC: the cybersecurity page covers that CV.
- You are a student with home-lab projects only: the software developer page shows how to present projects, and certificates here will not replace work evidence.
Applying abroad and next steps
For Germany, the developer CV page covers the IT specialist route and how German employers read the document, and the EU Blue Card page covers the visa file. For the Netherlands, the developer page covers English-language teams and sponsoring employers. None of that is repeated here.
CitedCV can draft the CV from facts you give it and checks each number in a line against those facts before keeping the line, so a deployment count appears only if you supplied it. A new account comes with 6 free credits.
Questions people ask
What should a DevOps engineer resume include?
The platforms and clouds you ran, infrastructure you wrote as code, the pipelines you built, one or two delivery metrics with before and after values, on-call work, and current certificates with expiry dates.
Do DevOps engineers need certifications?
Not by law or by the official standard, which lists knowledge and skills rather than certificates. A cloud certificate helps when the posting names that cloud, and some public employers make one mandatory.
How long are AWS certifications valid?
Three years for the Associate and Professional certificates we checked. Passing the latest or a higher exam renews for three years; AWS also lists a one-year maintenance option.
What happened to the AWS SysOps Administrator certification?
It was renamed AWS Certified CloudOps Engineer, Associate, for people who pass the SOA-C03 exam. Older SysOps certificates keep their name and stay valid for three years from issue.
Can I take AZ-400 without AZ-104?
You can sit AZ-400, but Microsoft awards DevOps Engineer Expert only once you also hold Azure Administrator Associate or Azure Developer Associate.
Which metrics belong on a DevOps CV?
The DORA ones you actually changed, such as change lead time or failed deployment recovery time, plus cost or alert-noise figures where your work moved them.
How do I show Terraform experience on a resume?
Say what the code manages, how many modules or resources, who uses them and how changes are reviewed. A bare "Terraform" in the skills list proves little.
Should expired cloud certificates stay on my CV?
Only as history with dates, never as current. Employers who verify certificates, such as SSB in its 2026 notice, disregard one they cannot confirm as valid.
