Singapore CV format: a resume for Singapore employers and the Employment Pass
A Singapore resume is one to two pages, reverse chronological and text-based with clear headings. For a foreign hire, its degree and job lines also feed MOM’s Employment Pass test: a qualifying salary, then 40 COMPASS points.1
Written 13 October 2026. CitedCV. How we write our guides
Two readers: the hiring manager and the Ministry of Manpower
A resume sent to a Singapore employer is first a sales document. If you are not a Singapore citizen or permanent resident, it becomes the outline of a second file: the Employment Pass (EP) application, which only the employer or its appointed employment agent can submit. MOM then checks the salary offered, verifies your degree and scores the job and the company on COMPASS.
Write for the first reader, but make every degree, title and date match the documents the second reader will see.
Covered by other guides
How to spot a fake overseas offer, how degree comparisons work in general and which visas ask for a CV are each covered once on this site and linked below.
First step: test the offer against Stage 1 before you polish anything
MOM’s framework has two stages and the first one is a hard floor. A resume cannot fix a salary below it, so check this before tailoring.
- Find your age in MOM’s qualifying salary table (extract below) and compare it with the fixed monthly salary in the job ad or offer.
- Note whether the job is in financial services, which has a higher scale.
- Check whether your degree is on MOM’s top-tier institution list or counts as degree-equivalent; both lists are PDFs linked from the eligibility page.
- Decide how your degree will be verified: a listed background screening company, an official verification portal in English, or OpenCerts.
- Ask the employer whether it has run MOM’s Self-Assessment Tool for the role; MOM says not to apply if the tool shows the candidate does not qualify.
- Only then tailor the resume to the ad.
How a Singapore resume is built
Resume, not CV, for most jobs
CareersCompass by MyCareersFuture, the government careers site run by the Skills and Workforce Development Agency, draws the line clearly. A CV is a full career archive, three to ten pages. A resume is a snapshot, and one to two pages is the industry standard because recruiters skim. It says medicine, research and academia usually want the CV; almost every other private-sector job wants the resume.
Reverse chronological and tailored
The same article says the reverse-chronological format is widely used and accepted, with your latest role taking the most space. It tells readers to drop unrelated jobs, such as part-time retail work when applying for financial analytics, and to quantify impact.
Text, not graphics
It warns against overly graphic templates outside creative companies, because applicant tracking systems prefer text-only formats with clear headers. CareersCompass adds that many companies still make you fill in their own portal form; keep the resume open while you do and mirror the ad’s exact phrases.
Personal details to leave off
TAFEP, the tripartite body for fair employment, tells employers to remove fields on age, gender, race, religion, marital status and family responsibilities, disability, photographs, National Service liability and mental health from application forms, and to accept a passport number because an NRIC number reveals age. If an employer should not ask for them, there is no reason to volunteer them: no photo, no date of birth, no marital status.
Cover letter and portfolio
CareersCompass says most companies have dropped the cover letter, but some ads still ask for one to see who follows instructions. In creative fields, put a portfolio link on the resume.
Your resume lines against the Employment Pass framework
This table maps each part of MOM’s framework to the line on your resume that has to agree with it. Points and rules are from MOM’s eligibility page, last updated 28 April 2026.
| Stage or criterion | What MOM measures | Points | The resume line that must agree |
|---|---|---|---|
| Stage 1: qualifying salary | Fixed monthly salary against an age-based floor, top third of local PMET pay | Pass or fail | None directly, but your stated years of experience and seniority should fit the salary offered |
| C1 Salary | Salary against local PMET pay in the sector, by age | 20 at 90th percentile and above, 10 from 65th, else 0 | Job title and level that justify the pay |
| C2 Qualifications | Top-tier institution, other degree-equivalent, or none | 20 / 10 / 0 | Degree title, institution and year exactly as on the certificate and verification proof |
| C3 Diversity | Your nationality’s share of the firm’s PMETs | 20 / 10 / 0; firms under 25 PMETs get 10 | Nothing; this is about the employer |
| C4 Local employment | Firm’s local PMET share against its sector | 20 / 10 / 0; firms under 25 PMETs get 10 | Nothing; this is about the employer |
| C5 Skills bonus | Job on the Shortage Occupation List | 20, or 10 if your nationality is a third or more of the firm’s PMETs | Duties, past experience and qualifications for that exact occupation; MOM checks them when the bonus is needed |
| C6 Strategic Economic Priorities | Employer in an eligible programme with an economic agency or NTUC | 10 | Nothing; this is about the employer |
| Exemption | Fixed monthly salary of at least $22,500, intra-corporate transferee, or a role of one month or less | Not scored | For a transfer, the group company and dates must be clear |
An application needs 40 points. MOM’s own worked example A-1 passes with 10 on each foundational criterion: a business manager with a non-top-tier foreign bachelor’s degree, paid at the 70th percentile, in a firm where the candidate’s nationality is 15% of PMETs.

What MOM and TAFEP say, read on 13 October 2026
| Page | Last updated | What it says that matters for your resume |
|---|---|---|
| MOM, Employment Pass | 27 August 2026 | For foreign professionals, managers, executives and technicians earning at least $5,600 a month; employers must show they considered all jobseekers fairly |
| MOM, Eligibility | 28 April 2026 | Two stages; 40 COMPASS points; exemption at $22,500 fixed monthly salary |
| MOM, Documents required | 18 May 2026 | Passport page, ACRA business profile, qualification verification if C2 points are needed; certificates, notarised copies and school letters are not accepted as verification |
| MOM, Apply for a pass | 15 June 2026 | Employer or employment agent applies; candidate’s written consent; $105 fee; online applications processed or updated within 10 business days |
| MOM, Consider all candidates fairly | Updated notice dated 5 January 2026 | Ad on MyCareersFuture for at least 14 consecutive days; advertised salary range no wider than 2 times the minimum and must include your salary |
| TAFEP, Preparing job application forms | Not dated | Employers should remove fields on age, photographs, marital status and other personal data |
The MyCareersFuture rule has a practical consequence: the job you are offered should match an ad that was open for two weeks, so the title in that ad is the title to use at the top of your tailored resume.
Where this guide stops
- S Pass and Work Permit jobs: they follow different MOM rules not covered here.
- Doctors, nurses, pharmacists, lawyers and other regulated roles: MOM lists extra documents from each professional body, such as the Singapore Nursing Board.
- Overseas companies without a Singapore entity: MOM requires a local sponsor and a manual form, usually decided within six weeks.
- The Workplace Fairness Act: TAFEP promotes briefings on it, but we did not read the Act or its start date, so this guide relies on the Tripartite Guidelines only.
Next steps
- Search the role on MyCareersFuture, the portal where EP employers must advertise, and match your resume title to the ad.
- Start degree verification early; MOM accepts it only from listed screening companies, eligible official portals or OpenCerts, and once verified you are not asked again.
- If you receive in-principle approval, MOM says it acts as a single-entry visa and gives you six months to enter and have the pass issued.
- CitedCV can write the English resume from facts you confirm. It has no Singapore profile, so choose the UK or US convention, both without a photo, and keep the result to two pages.
Questions people ask
What is the standard resume format in Singapore?
A one to two page, reverse-chronological resume with clear text headings, tailored to the job ad. The government’s CareersCompass site calls one to two pages the industry standard.
How long should a resume be in Singapore?
One to two pages for most jobs. A full CV of three to ten pages is for medicine, research and academia, according to CareersCompass by MyCareersFuture.
Should I put a photo on my resume in Singapore?
No. TAFEP tells employers to remove photograph fields from application forms, along with age, marital status and religion, so leave them off your resume.
What is COMPASS for the Employment Pass?
COMPASS is MOM’s points test for EP applications. Salary, qualifications, workforce diversity and local hiring score up to 20 each, two bonuses add more, and 40 points pass.
What is the minimum salary for an Employment Pass?
It starts at $5,600 a month at age 23 or below and rises to $10,700 at 45, as read on 13 October 2026. New applications from 1 January 2027 start at $6,000.
Do I need to verify my degree for an Employment Pass?
Only if the application needs points from qualifications. Then MOM wants verification proof from a listed screening company, an eligible official portal or OpenCerts.
Can I apply for a Singapore Employment Pass myself?
No. MOM says the employer or an appointed employment agent applies on your behalf, with your written consent; you do not need to be in Singapore.
How long must a job be advertised before an Employment Pass application?
At least 14 consecutive days on MyCareersFuture. MOM also says the employer should not make a job offer during that period.
