Power, automation or electronics: say it in the headline

The Bureau of Labor Statistics draws the line clearly. Electrical engineers design, develop, test and supervise the manufacture of electrical systems and equipment such as motors and power generation equipment; electronics engineers design the components and circuitry of electronic products. Automation work sits between the two. A recruiter for a substation contractor and one for a consumer electronics firm will each stop reading if the top third of your CV belongs to the other world.

Write the exact title on your diploma

In Türkiye the diploma title changes what you may do, and readers know it. The site chief regulation lists electrical engineers, and electrical-electronics engineers whose equivalence to electrical engineering a higher education institution has accepted. EMO's high-voltage training is open to electrical and electrical-electronics engineers but reviews the transcript of the latter first. So write Elektrik Mühendisliği or Elektrik-Elektronik Mühendisliği exactly as printed, and note a positive transcript review if you have had one.

Building the credential block, step by step

1. Chamber: article 33 of Law 6235 obliges engineers doing professional work to register with the chamber for their branch, here the Elektrik Mühendisleri Odası (EMO). Permanent public employees may choose. Give membership and registration number under your name.
2. Freelance and project signing: EMO's member portal lists the SMM application among its online services. EMO's old regulation pages now return a not-found error, so this page does not list SMM conditions; ask your branch.
3. Training certificates: EMO's in-service training centre, MİSEM, issues authorisation certificates after its courses. Write each one by its exact name and year.
4. Site chief: if you are eligible under the regulation and have done it, list each job with floor area and dates.
5. Abroad: FE and PE in the US, professional registration in the UK, and the country pages for Europe.

Two EMO certificates, by their exact names

The high-voltage course page says it exists because the renewed regulation on heavy-current installations put the role of the operating responsible engineer in focus. If you hold that role, the CV line is short and exact: 'HV operating responsible engineer, 34.5 kV, 2 × 2,500 kVA, since 2023'.

Outside Türkiye

BLS says licensure is not required for entry-level electrical and electronics engineers; experienced engineers may obtain a PE licence, which lets them supervise others and sign off on projects, after the FE exam and work experience. NCEES runs the PE in Electrical and Computer with three areas: Power, Electrical and Electronics, and Computer Engineering. In the UK, the National Careers Service says professional registration can lead to senior roles, and points to the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET).

PLC and automation lines a reader can test

Automation hiring managers often ask candidates to talk through a program they wrote. Give them something to ask about. A line that names the controller family, the software, the size and the result invites a real conversation; 'PLC programming' invites a quiz.

• Controller family and software, for example Siemens S7-1500 in TIA Portal or Rockwell in Studio 5000.
• Size: I/O points, drives, HMI screens, number of machines or lines.
• Your part: new program, modification, migration from an old controller, or commissioning only.
• Result: downtime, cycle time, energy, or a fault you found.

On the electronics side

• Board: layers, main components, the design tool you used.
• Firmware: language, microcontroller family, size of the codebase you owned.
• Test: what you measured, with which equipment, and the yield or failure rate that changed.

Certificate names are left in Turkish with a short English gloss in the header; a foreign reader can look them up, and a Turkish reader recognises them at once.
