Pharmacist CV example: one career, two settings

A pharmacist CV starts with registration and then shows the setting: dispensing volume, counselling and services for a community pharmacy, or medication reviews, ward work and hospital systems for a hospital post. Write it twice if you apply to both.1

Choose the setting before you choose the words

Community and hospital pharmacy hire for different evidence, and a single CV tends to serve neither. The US Bureau of Labor Statistics counts about 37% of pharmacists in pharmacies and drug retailers and about 32% in hospitals, so most applicants are writing for one of these two readers.

O*NET’s task list shows the common core: reviewing prescriptions for accuracy and suitability, advising on interactions, side effects, dosage and storage, working with other health professionals on drug regimens, and services that help patients manage diabetes, asthma or high blood pressure. What changes is which of these the reader wants first.

How registration works in four countries

Türkiye: the law behind the job titles

Article 2 of Law 6197 lists the conditions for practising pharmacy in Türkiye: Turkish citizenship, a pharmacy diploma from a Turkish school or a foreign one validated under article 3, and registration of the diploma by the Ministry of Health. Article 5 says a community pharmacy is opened by a pharmacist who is both owner and responsible pharmacist (mesul müdür), under a licence issued by the provincial health directorate and approved by the governor.

The same article sets the rule that shapes early careers. A pharmacist who wants to open a pharmacy, or be its responsible pharmacist, must first work at least one year under contract as an assistant pharmacist (yardımcı eczacı). At least a year in a hospital pharmacy, or as a second pharmacist (ikinci eczacı) in a community pharmacy, also counts. Pharmacies above a threshold of prescriptions or turnover must employ a second pharmacist.

Turkish titleEnglish gloss for the CVWhy the exact title matters
Yardımcı eczacıAssistant pharmacistThe standard route to the one-year requirement
İkinci eczacıSecond pharmacistA year in this role also meets the requirement
Hastane eczacısıHospital pharmacistA year in a hospital pharmacy also meets it
Mesul müdür eczacıResponsible pharmacist (owner)Possible only after the one-year requirement

Chamber registration follows the employer, not the title. Law 6643 requires pharmacists in private practice or in private institutions to register with the provincial chamber before starting work; pharmacists in permanent public posts may register if they wish.

United Kingdom

The National Careers Service describes a 4-year MPharm approved by the General Pharmaceutical Council followed by a one-year foundation programme. The GPhC says trainees spend 52 weeks in supervised training at an approved site before the registration assessment, and that pharmacists qualified abroad follow an OSPAP course first. NCS adds that registered pharmacists can become independent prescribers through an accredited course.

United States

BLS says most pharmacists hold a Doctor of Pharmacy, every state requires a licence, candidates usually pass two exams and complete a state-set number of intern hours, and clinical roles often add a 1 to 2 year residency. Most states also require certification to give vaccinations.

Germany

The Recognition Finder entry for Munich lists the Approbation, German at B2 and usually a C1 specialist language exam, and names a CV (Lebenslauf) among the required documents. It gives the Approbation fee there as €400.

Specialty routes open to Turkish pharmacists

EUS is the entrance exam for specialty training in faculties of pharmacy. In 2026 it runs as a 75-question electronic exam in Ankara on 7 November, lasting 110 minutes. Placement needs at least 50 in English on YDS or an accepted equivalent, and the guide adds that a specialty student may not open or run a pharmacy.

Pharmacognosy and pharmaceutical botany11
Pharmaceutical technology11
Analytical chemistry7
Pharmacology6

Pharmacy graduates can also sit TUS for two medical specialties, medical biochemistry and medical microbiology, according to table 1A of the 2026 TUS guide. On a CV, write either route as “Specialty training in Clinical Pharmacy, [University] Faculty of Pharmacy, since [month year] (entry via EUS)”.

Skills that pharmacy employers name

NCS asks for thoroughness, customer service, chemistry knowledge, maths, patience under stress, verbal communication and confident computer use. BLS lists analytical, communication, compassion, detail-oriented, interpersonal and managerial skills.

SkillNamed byEvidence line

Worked example: the same pharmacist written for two jobs

Example only. Zeynep Kaya is invented, and her employers and numbers are illustrative. She has one year as an assistant pharmacist and one as a second pharmacist in community pharmacies in Türkiye, and is applying to a private hospital pharmacy and to another community pharmacy.

Shared header

  • Zeynep Kaya, Pharmacist (Eczacı) · Izmir · zeynep.kaya@example.com
  • Pharmacy diploma registered with the Ministry of Health of Türkiye, 2024 · member, Izmir Chamber of Pharmacists
  • One-year assistant pharmacist requirement under Law 6197 completed, September 2025

Version A: for a community pharmacy

  • Second Pharmacist, [Pharmacy], Izmir · September 2025 to present · about 250 prescriptions a day
  • Counselled patients on new prescriptions, with a written dosing card for those on five or more medicines
  • Ran a blood pressure check service two afternoons a week
  • Supervised two technicians and the monthly stock count; cut expired stock by reordering slow lines
  • Assistant Pharmacist, [Pharmacy], Manisa · September 2024 to September 2025

Version B: for a hospital pharmacy

  • Second Pharmacist, [Pharmacy], Izmir · September 2025 to present
  • Clinical check of about 250 prescriptions a day; dose and interaction queries sent back to prescribers in writing

  • Assistant Pharmacist, [Pharmacy], Manisa · September 2024 to September 2025
  • Course: clinical pharmacy certificate, [provider], 2026, 60 hours

Same facts, different order: version A leads with patient contact and the service, version B with clinical checks and calculations. Neither adds a claim the other lacks evidence for.

Who this example is not for

  • Industry roles in production, quality or regulatory affairs, which read for GMP, documentation and project work rather than dispensing.
  • Responsible pharmacist posts at a drug wholesaler, which Law 6197 also reserves for pharmacists but which need a different emphasis.
  • Academic posts in a faculty of pharmacy, which start with publications and teaching.

Next steps, at home or abroad

No country guide on this site is specific to pharmacists yet. For the UK, start with the GPhC’s page for internationally qualified pharmacists; for Germany, run the Recognition Finder for your state. The page on degree recognition shows how to write the official comparison of your degree, and the guide to CVs for jobs abroad covers format and photos by country.

Writing two versions from one history is where CitedCV’s job match helps; it opens once you buy any credit pack (from $9 for 30 credits, paid once). It checks each requirement in a posting against a quote from a line on your CV, and drops a quote that is not really there.

  1. Decide whether the post is community or hospital.
  2. Write the registration line and, in Türkiye, the exact title for each post.
  3. Count prescriptions, services or ward work from your own records.
  4. Order the lines for the setting, using the comparison table above.

Questions people ask

How do I write a pharmacist CV for a hospital job?

Lead with clinical checks, calculations, ward or team work and the hospital systems you know, and move retail services lower on the page.

What should a community pharmacist put on a CV?

Prescription volume, counselling, services you ran, staff and stock you supervised, and your registration and chamber membership.

Does hospital pharmacy experience count toward opening a pharmacy in Turkey?

Yes. Law 6197 accepts at least one year in a hospital pharmacy, or as a second pharmacist, in place of the one-year assistant pharmacist requirement.

Can pharmacists take TUS?

Yes, for two specialties. The 2026 TUS guide opens medical biochemistry and medical microbiology to graduates of faculties of pharmacy.

What is EUS for pharmacists?

EUS is the entrance exam for specialty training in faculties of pharmacy: 75 questions, electronic, held in Ankara, with an English language requirement for placement.

Can a pharmacist trained in Türkiye work in the UK?

Only after GPhC registration. The GPhC routes internationally qualified pharmacists through an OSPAP course, then 52 weeks of foundation training and the registration assessment.

Which systems should a pharmacist list on a CV?

List the dispensing, stock and health record systems you used by name, as O*NET does with Epic, MEDITECH and Pyxis MedStation, rather than “computer skills”.
