Nurse CV example: registration first, then the clinical units
A nurse CV opens with registration status, because the law ties the title to it, then lists clinical units with one measurable line each and dated certificates. Below is a worked example for a new graduate in Türkiye.1
Written 13 October 2026. CitedCV. How we write our guides
Write the registration line before anything else
Every system covered on this page makes the job title depend on a register. In Türkiye, article 1 of the Nursing Law (Law 6283) gives the title hemşire to bachelor's graduates whose diploma the Ministry of Health has registered, and article 3 says nobody else may practise nursing there. In the UK, the National Careers Service profile says you will need to register with the Nursing and Midwifery Council. In the US, the Bureau of Labor Statistics says registered nurses need a licence from the state where they work.
So the first line under your name is not a profile sentence. It is the register, the number or status, and the date. A recruiter who cannot see it has to ask, and a file that answers the legal question on its own saves that call.
When registration is still in progress
Write the stage and a date you can prove: 'Diploma submitted for Ministry of Health registration, September 2025' or 'NMC application opened, CBT booked for March'. Do not write 'Registered Nurse' until the register says so. The same law that grants the title also limits who may practise, so an overstated title is a real problem, not a style issue.
What employers check, by country
| Where | What the title needs | What to write on the CV |
|---|---|---|
| Türkiye | A nursing bachelor's degree and diploma registration (tescil) by the Ministry of Health; foreign degrees need equivalence first (Law 6283, art. 1) | Diploma registration month and year, or the stage it has reached |
| UK | Registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NCS nurse profile) | NMC PIN once issued, or the Test of Competence stage |
| US | A state licence after an approved programme and a qualifying exam (BLS) | State, licence type and expiry date |
| Germany | State recognition before the protected job title can be used | See the Germany nurse guide; it owns this topic |
Checks that sit outside the CV
The NCS profile also lists enhanced background checks as a requirement. You do not put a result on the CV, but a line such as 'Enhanced background check: ready to complete on offer' answers a question a UK ward manager would otherwise ask by phone.
How to build the clinical units block
Türkiye's Nursing Regulation (Hemşirelik Yönetmeliği) names the areas a charge nurse can run: inpatient units and clinics, intensive care units, outpatient diagnosis and treatment units, emergency departments and home care. Using the same names makes your history easy to map onto the employer's rota.
- List every unit you worked or trained in, newest first, with the hospital type (state, university or private) and the city.
- Give the unit size in beds and your usual patient load per shift.
- Add one line about a procedure or routine you owned in that unit: wound care, drain checks, insulin titration, triage.
- Add one line with a number: audits passed, falls avoided, patients educated, staff you trained.
- Name the hospital information system or electronic record you used, if you remember which one.
- Stop at three lines per unit, so the newest unit stays near the top of the first page.
Why the patient load matters
BLS lists organisation as a core quality, describing nurses who coordinate several treatment plans and records at once. 'Seven to nine post-operative patients per day shift' says that in one clause; 'good at multitasking' says nothing a reader can check.
Worked example: new-graduate nurse, first job in Izmir
Example only. Zeynep Kaya, the hospital and every number below are invented to show the form of each line. Write only what you can prove.
- Zeynep Kaya, Nurse (Hemşire) | Izmir, Türkiye | +90 5xx xxx xx xx | zeynep.kaya@example.com
- Registration: diploma registered with the Ministry of Health of Türkiye, September 2025
- BSc Nursing, a state university in Izmir, 2021 to 2025
- Staff Nurse, General Surgery Ward (28 beds), private hospital, Izmir | October 2025 to present
- Cared for 7 to 9 post-operative patients per day shift, with drain, wound and pain-score checks every 4 hours.
- Gave doctors' written orders through the hospital information system; no transcription errors found in 3 monthly ward audits.
- Showed 2 newly hired nurses the ward's fall-risk form during their first month.
| Placement as a student | Length | What she did |
|---|---|---|
| Internal medicine, state hospital | 8 weeks | Insulin and blood glucose monitoring for 6 diabetic patients a shift |
| Adult intensive care | 6 weeks | Hourly vital signs and fluid balance charts under a supervising nurse |
| Emergency department | 6 weeks | Triage observations and ECG set-up for chest pain arrivals |
Why each line is there
The registration line answers the legal question first. The unit line gives size and load. Each bullet carries a number the interviewer can ask about. The placement table matters only for a new graduate: after two or three years in paid posts, shrink it to one line, because the employed history now does the work.
Certificates: which ones to list and how
For a Turkish employer, the life-support and ECG skills sit inside the Ministry of Health's certified emergency care nursing programme: its published standard covers basic life support (TYD), advanced life support (İYD), defibrillation and the ECG features of arrhythmias. Shorter TYD or ECG courses from hospitals and associations also exist; list each one under its exact name, the issuer, the month and the hours.
In the US, BLS says some registered nursing positions require CPR, basic life support or advanced cardiac life support certification. Put the expiry date next to each one; an expired card is a question you can avoid.
Authorisation certificates and the specialist title
Law 6283 also provides for a yetki belgesi, an authorisation certificate for specialised units after in-service training, and reserves the specialist nurse title (uzman hemşire) for nurses with a relevant postgraduate degree whose diploma has also been registered. Write either only when you hold the document.
Skills table with the evidence to show
| Skill named by an official profile | Source | Line that proves it |
|---|---|---|
| Assessing patient needs and urgency | NCS | Triage observations for chest pain arrivals in the emergency department |
| Drawing up care plans | NCS | Wrote discharge care plans for 4 to 5 surgical patients a week |
| Detail orientation with medicines | BLS | No transcription errors in 3 monthly audits |
| Communication with patients and families | NCS, BLS | Taught insulin pen use to newly diagnosed patients before discharge |
| Medical record software | O*NET lists Epic, MEDITECH and eClinicalWorks | Name the system you used, in the skills line |
Physical stamina and emotional stability also appear on the BLS list. Do not write them as words; the shift pattern and the unit (night shifts on an intensive care unit, for example) already show them.

Who this example does not fit
- Specialist nurses with ten or more years in one field: lead with the specialty and the authorisation certificate, not a placement table.
- Midwives: Türkiye regulates midwifery under its own rules, and the title is different.
- People who want to start nursing training in Germany: the nursing Ausbildung guide covers that application.
- Care workers without a nursing degree: the caregiver CV guide is the right starting point.
Applying abroad
For Germany, the recognition procedure, the knowledge test and the clinical block authorities expect have their own guide; this page does not repeat them. In the UK, the NMC says it uses a Test of Competence to assess applicants from overseas, made up of a computer-based test and an OSCE, and it must be satisfied with your English. In the US, the NCLEX site says you first apply to the nursing regulatory body of the state, then register and pay with Pearson VUE.
Write the stage you have reached in each process on the CV, with dates, in the same place as the Turkish registration line.
Next steps
- Match each unit's wording to the job advert; the guide on tailoring a CV shows how.
- Run the finished file through CitedCV's free ATS checker, which needs no account, to see whether the headings and dates read cleanly.
- If you want a draft in English, Turkish or German from your own facts, CitedCV can write it; it does not know nursing rules, so check every registration line yourself.
Questions people ask
What should a new graduate nurse put on a CV?
Put the registration line, the degree, every clinical placement with its length and one task, and dated certificates. The placement table carries the weight until you have paid experience.
Should I write my patient ratio on a nursing CV?
Yes, write it as a range per shift for each unit. It shows workload in a form a ward manager can compare with their own rota.
Do I list BLS and ACLS on a nurse CV?
Yes, with the issuer and the expiry date. BLS notes that some registered nursing posts require CPR, BLS or ACLS certification.
Can I call myself a registered nurse before registration is complete?
No. In Türkiye the title depends on Ministry registration of the diploma, and in the UK on NMC registration. Write the stage reached instead.
How do I show intensive care experience as a student?
Give the unit, the weeks and the supervised tasks, for example hourly vital signs and fluid balance charts. Say it was a placement, not a post.
Which nursing skills should go on a CV?
The ones you can prove with a line: assessment, care plans, medicines, patient teaching and the record system you used. Skip personality words.
Do I need the NCLEX to work in the UK?
No. The UK route is NMC registration, which for overseas applicants includes a Test of Competence. The NCLEX is the US licensing exam route.
