Project manager CV example: scope, budget and team lines that hold up
A project manager CV lists each project with what was delivered, the budget, the team size, the start and end months and the result, then any PMP or PRINCE2 credential with its version and year.1

Build a project ledger before you write a single bullet
Open a spreadsheet and give every project you ran one row: name, sponsor, start month, end month, budget and currency, team size, method, and what changed when it closed. Most weak PM CVs fail here, because the writer starts with adjectives and never collects the numbers.
The ledger also answers PMI's eligibility test if you later apply for the PMP. PMI's handbook counts experience in months, not in projects: two projects that ran side by side from February to April count as three months, not six. Writing your CV from non-overlapping months keeps it consistent with any application you file.
Columns worth adding
- Your role: did you lead and direct the project, or support someone who did? PMI only counts experience that includes leading and directing.
- Constraints you worked inside: fixed launch date, regulatory deadline, frozen budget.
- Changes you handled: scope changes approved, risks that materialised, suppliers replaced.
- Evidence you can show at interview: a closure report, a steering-committee pack, a lessons-learned log.
Four lines every project entry needs
The National Careers Service describes the job as planning, working out timescales, resources and costs, leading a multi-skilled team and reporting on progress, issues, quality and risks. O*NET's profile for project management specialists adds monitoring milestones and deliverables and assigning duties. A CV entry that covers scope, money, time and people answers all of those at once.
| Line | What it proves | Strong version | Weak version |
|---|---|---|---|
| Scope | You know what was being built and for whom | Rolled out a warehouse management system to 3 sites and 140 users | Managed an IT project |
| Budget | You controlled money, not only tasks | €1.2m capital budget; closed 4% under after re-tendering hardware | Responsible for budget |
| Schedule | You planned and held dates | Go-live in month 11 of a 12-month plan; two phase gates met on date | Delivered on time |
| Team | You led people you did not always manage | 9 internal staff and 2 vendors across 3 time zones | Strong leadership skills |
Outcome comes after the four lines
Close each entry with what changed for the business: a cost removed, a deadline met for a regulator, an error rate that fell. Keep it to what the closure report or your sponsor would confirm. If the project was cancelled, say so and say what you did with the stop decision; a clean shutdown is still project management.
Method and tools in one line
Name the method you actually ran (predictive, agile, hybrid, PRINCE2 stages) and the tools. O*NET lists tools such as Atlassian Jira and Confluence, Microsoft Teams, Oracle Primavera, Microsoft Visio and Excel for this occupation; list only the ones you used on the projects above.
Sample CV section: operations project manager in manufacturing (example)
Example only. The person, employers and figures are invented to show the form. Use your own projects and numbers.
- Selin Aksoy, Project Manager. Izmir, Türkiye. Email, phone, LinkedIn.
- Credentials: PMP, Project Management Institute, 2024. PRINCE2 7 Foundation, PeopleCert, 2022.
- Project Manager, an automotive parts maker, Mar 2022 to present. Led the rollout of a warehouse management system to 3 plants (140 users, €1.2m budget, 9 staff and 2 vendors); went live in month 11 of a 12-month plan and closed 4% under budget after re-tendering scanners.
- Ran a second-shift launch for one assembly line: hired and onboarded 22 operators with HR, set 6 weekly milestones, reported to the plant director every Friday; target output reached in week 9 against a plan of week 10.
- Project Coordinator, same company, Jan 2019 to Feb 2022. Kept the schedule and risk log for 4 capital projects worth €3.5m in total; prepared monthly steering packs.
- Tools: Microsoft Project, Jira, Confluence, Excel, Power BI. Languages: Turkish (native), English (C1), German (B1).
Why the coordinator years stay on the page
They show how the person learned the job, and the National Careers Service names this route: moving up from a project support role while taking qualifications on the job. Keep the coordinator lines shorter than the manager lines and make clear you supported the project rather than led it.
PMP and PRINCE2: what each one requires and how to write it
Neither credential is a licence; the BLS says certification is not always required but may be beneficial. Employers still filter on them, so write them exactly and only if they are current.
| Credential | Awarding body | What you need | Keeping it |
|---|---|---|---|
| PMP | Project Management Institute (PMI) | 36 months of project experience in the last 8 years with a four-year degree; 60 months with a secondary or associate degree; 24 months with a degree from a GAC-accredited programme. Plus 35 contact hours of project management education, waived for an active CAPM holder | 60 PDUs every 3 years, at least 35 of them education |
| PRINCE2 7 Foundation | PeopleCert | Exam: 60 multiple-choice questions, 60 minutes, closed book, 60% to pass | Renewal every 3 years: 60 CPD points or another exam in the same product suite |
| PRINCE2 7 Practitioner | PeopleCert | A prerequisite such as PRINCE2 7 Foundation, an earlier PRINCE2 certificate, PMP, CAPM or an IPMA level. Exam: 56 questions worth 70 marks, 150 minutes, open book, 60% to pass | Subject to renewal; 60 CPD points |
The credential line
Write the name, the body, the version where there is one and the year: "PRINCE2 7 Practitioner, PeopleCert, 2025". A version number matters because PeopleCert accepts older PRINCE2 editions as prerequisites, so a reader may ask which one you hold. For the PMP, the year you passed is enough.
Lapsed or suspended
PMI's renewal handbook says a holder who misses the renewal requirements is suspended for 12 months and may not use the designation during that time. If yours is suspended, leave it off until PMI shows it as active again, and mention the renewal at interview if it comes up.
Skills table for a project manager
| Skill named by an official profile | Source | Proof on the CV |
|---|---|---|
| Leadership | National Careers Service | Team size, vendors managed, people you onboarded |
| Monitoring your own and colleagues’ performance | National Careers Service | Weekly reporting rhythm, milestones tracked, variance explained |
| Thoroughness and attention to detail | National Careers Service | Risk log or change log you owned |
| Organisational and time-management skills | BLS | Plan length against actual, phase gates held |
| Communication and interpersonal skills | BLS | Steering committees chaired, client point of contact |
| Analytical and problem-solving skills | BLS | A problem that threatened the date and what you changed |
Put the skill words in a short skills block if the posting uses them, but let the project lines carry the proof. A reader believes "re-tendered scanners and closed 4% under" more than "excellent budget management".
Proof: sources read on 13 October 2026
We read each source on 13 October 2026. The BLS Occupational Outlook Handbook lists 1,094,300 project management specialist jobs in 2025, a median wage of $102,320 in May 2025 and growth of 7% from 2025 to 2035, which it calls much faster than average. The National Careers Service gives a business project manager salary of £29,000 for starters to £75,000 for experienced staff. PMI's eligibility rules come from its PMP handbook (copyright 2023) and the renewal rules from its CCR handbook (copyright 2026); we quote eligibility only, not the exam format, which PMI revises. PRINCE2 7 exam details come from PeopleCert's product pages.
Credential rules and fees change. Open the PMI or PeopleCert page before you apply or renew.
When this layout needs changing
- Programme or portfolio roles: lead with the portfolio size and governance you ran, then the projects inside it.
- Construction project managers: site, contract type and value matter more than tools; the civil engineer CV guide covers site roles and İMO membership.
- Software delivery and scrum roles: the team, release cadence and product matter more than phase gates; the software developer guide covers stack lines if you came from engineering.
- Career changers with no PM title: describe the projects you led inside another job, with the same four lines. PMI says the experience does not have to be paid, but it must be in a professional setting.
Applying abroad
There is no country guide for project managers on this site yet. The UK CV format guide and the Germany CV format guide cover photos, personal details and length; the jobs-abroad checklist covers the rest. CitedCV can write the CV in English, Turkish or German from the projects, budgets and dates you enter; it does not check whether your credentials are active, so list only what PMI or PeopleCert would confirm.
Questions people ask
How do I write PMP on my resume?
Write "PMP, Project Management Institute" and the year you passed, in a credentials line under your name or in a certifications section.
How many months of experience do I need for the PMP?
Thirty-six months within the last eight years if you hold a four-year degree, sixty with a secondary or associate degree, twenty-four from a GAC-accredited programme.
Should I put PRINCE2 Foundation on my CV?
Yes, if you passed it; write the version and year, such as PRINCE2 7 Foundation, PeopleCert, 2022, so the reader knows which edition.
Do project managers need a certification?
Not always. The BLS says certification is not always required but may be beneficial; delivery evidence on the CV does most of the work.
How do I show a project budget on a resume?
Give the amount, the currency and whether you held it, for example a €1.2m budget closed 4% under after re-tendering hardware.
Can I list project management experience without the job title?
Yes. Describe the projects you led inside your actual role with scope, budget, dates and team, and keep your real job title.
Can I write PMP if my certification is suspended?
No. PMI says a suspended holder may not use the designation for the 12-month suspension, so leave it off until you renew.
