HR specialist CV example with recruitment figures and HRIS lines
An HR specialist CV should show how many people you hired, how fast, for which roles, and which HR system you ran, with any CIPD or SHRM qualification named exactly. Duties without numbers read like a job description.1

Do this first: export a year of your own hiring data
People in HR are unusual among applicants: the evidence for their CV already sits in a system they log into every day. Before you touch the document, run a report from your applicant tracking system or HRIS for the last twelve months, or rebuild it from your own spreadsheets if that is what the team used. You want counts you can defend, not impressions.
- Requisitions you owned and how many of them closed with a hire.
- Days from approved requisition to accepted offer, per role family (warehouse, office, specialist).
- Offers made and offers accepted, so the acceptance rate has a real denominator.
- Where hires came from: referrals, job boards, agencies, campus, internal moves.
- Hires who left during probation, if your system records it.
- Non-hiring work with a count: onboarding sessions run, policies rewritten, employee relations cases handled, records migrated.
Write the numbers next to the period and the headcount of the organisation. A time-to-fill figure means little until the reader knows whether you hired for 80 people or 8,000.
What an HR hiring manager reads for
The UK National Careers Service lists the HR officer's day as recruiting, planning training, making sure pay and benefits are right, handling complaints, discipline, absence and performance, advising on redundancy and employment law, and keeping confidential records. The US Bureau of Labor Statistics describes HR specialists who recruit, screen and interview applicants and place new hires, and says most positions require a bachelor's degree in human resources, business, communications or a related field. O*NET's survey for the occupation found 47 percent of respondents saying a bachelor's degree is required for a new hire.
| What gets checked | Where the official profiles put it | Where it goes on your CV |
|---|---|---|
| Volume and speed of hiring | BLS: recruit, screen, interview, place new hires | Two lines per role with counts and days |
| Employment law knowledge, for a named country | NCS lists knowledge of HR and employment law | One line naming the area: absence, discipline, redundancy, right to work |
| Records kept in an HR system | O*NET: maintain employment records in HR management software | A Systems line under each role |
| Handling people issues with discretion | NCS and O*NET both list complaints and employee relations | Case counts and outcomes, never names |
| A route into the profession | NCS: any degree, HR apprenticeships, or starting as an HR assistant | Education, or the first HR role at the top of experience |
Generalist or recruiter: choose the headline
BLS separates HR generalists, who cover recruitment, pay, benefits, training and employee relations, from recruitment specialists, also called recruiters or talent acquisition specialists. Your title line and the first two bullets should match the side the posting is on. A generalist CV that opens with sourcing metrics, or a recruiter CV that opens with policy work, makes the reader search for the fit.
Recruitment numbers that survive an interview question
There is no single official formula for most hiring metrics; companies define them differently. That is a reason to state your definition inside the line, briefly, so nobody compares your figure with a different measure. The table shows how to count each one from your own records.
| Measure | Count it as | How the line reads |
|---|---|---|
| Roles filled | Requisitions closed with an accepted offer in the period | Filled 64 of 71 requisitions in 2025 across operations and finance |
| Time to fill | Median days from approval to accepted offer | Cut median time to fill for warehouse roles from 41 to 26 days |
| Offer acceptance | Accepted offers divided by offers made | 92 percent offer acceptance (58 of 63) after adding pay bands to adverts |
| Source mix | Share of hires by channel | Raised referral hires from 9 to 22 percent with a staff referral scheme |
| Early leavers | Hires who left during probation, divided by hires | Probation leavers fell from 14 to 6 after a redesigned first week |
| Agency spend | Fees paid to recruitment agencies in the period | Moved 30 roles from agencies to direct hiring, saving the fee budget for two roles |
Always give the denominator
A percentage alone invites the question "out of how many". Ninety percent acceptance on ten offers and on two hundred offers are different achievements, and the bracket with the raw counts costs four words.
What stays out
HR work is full of confidential facts. Never name an employee, a disciplinary outcome, a settlement figure or anyone's salary. Counts and categories (twelve grievance cases closed within policy timescales) prove the skill without breaching the trust the job depends on.
HRIS and the systems line
O*NET lists the software HR specialists use, including ADP Workforce Now, Oracle Taleo, Workday, Oracle PeopleSoft and SAP, plus Excel and the rest of the office suite. Recruiters search CVs for these product names, so spell them as the vendor does and as the posting does.
- Name the module, not only the brand: Workday Recruiting, SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central, ADP payroll.
- Say what you did in it: daily administration, reporting, configuration, or a migration you helped run.
- Excel earns a place only with a task attached: absence dashboards, headcount reconciliations, pay review models.
- Put a short Systems line under each role so the reader sees which tools are current.
Implementation is a different claim
Using a system and implementing one are separate skills. If you took part in a rollout, give your piece of it: data cleaning for 600 employee records, user testing, training managers. A line that says "implemented Workday" when a consultancy did the build will not hold up when the interviewer asks about the configuration decisions.
Example: experience section of an HR specialist
Example only. Leyla Demir is invented, and so are the employers and figures. Replace every number with one from your own reports.
HR Specialist, a food manufacturer with about 900 staff, 2023 to present
- Ran end-to-end hiring for production, quality and logistics: 64 of 71 requisitions filled in 2025, median 29 days to accepted offer.
- Introduced structured interviews with scored questions for line managers; probation leavers fell from 14 to 6 percent over twelve months.
- Handled 18 employee relations cases (grievance, absence, conduct) to closure within the company procedure, two of them with external mediation.
- Systems: SAP SuccessFactors (Recruiting, Employee Central), Excel for monthly headcount and absence reports.
HR Assistant, a logistics company with about 250 staff, 2020 to 2023
- Moved 250 personnel files from paper and spreadsheets into the new HRIS, checking each record against payroll before go-live.
- Coordinated onboarding for 120 new starters, including right-to-work checks and first-day schedules.
- Wrote the absence reporting guide that line managers still use.
Notice what each bullet carries: a count, a time frame and an outcome, with the method named once. The assistant role is shorter because its strongest proof, the records migration, explains the later move into a specialist post.
Skills table for HR roles
| Skill | Proof a reader accepts | Weak version to avoid |
|---|---|---|
| Recruitment and selection | Roles filled, time to fill, interview method used | Excellent recruiter |
| Employment law, by country | The areas you advised on and the jurisdiction | Strong legal knowledge |
| HR systems | Product, module and task | Proficient in HR software |
| Employee relations | Case counts and categories, closed within procedure | People person |
| Data and reporting | The report, its audience and how often | Analytical mindset |
| Learning and development | Sessions run, attendance, completion rates | Passionate about growth |
CIPD, SHRM and how to write them
The Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development is the UK body; its qualification finder lists the levels below. Each leads to a membership grade, and the grade, not the course, is what UK adverts usually ask for.
| CIPD qualification | Level (England and Northern Ireland) | Membership it leads to |
|---|---|---|
| Foundation Certificate | RQF Level 3 | Foundation Member (Foundation CIPD) |
| Associate Diploma in People Management | RQF Level 5 | Associate Member (Assoc CIPD) |
| Associate Diploma in Organisational Learning and Development | RQF Level 5 | Associate Member (Assoc CIPD) |
| Advanced Diploma in Strategic People Management | RQF Level 7 | Associate Member, with a route to Chartered Member (MCIPD) or Chartered Fellow (FCIPD) by experience |
SHRM-CP and SHRM-SCP in the US
SHRM offers two certifications. Its certification page says the SHRM-CP needs no degree or experience to sit, while the SHRM-SCP needs three or more years in strategic HR or a SHRM-CP held for three years. Both must be renewed every three years, through professional development credits or by retaking the exam. BLS adds that certification is often voluntary, though some employers prefer or require it.
The certificate line
- Completed: CIPD Associate Diploma in People Management (Level 5), 2024, Assoc CIPD.
- In progress: CIPD Advanced Diploma in Strategic People Management, expected June 2027. Never drop the word expected.
- US: SHRM-CP, certified 2025. Add the renewal year only if the posting cares.
- From Türkiye: MYK İnsan Kaynakları Uzmanı (Level 6), with the qualification code, explained in one English phrase.
Applying abroad
Employment law is local, so an HR CV crossing a border has to say which country's rules you know. Write UK employment law, Turkish Labour Law 4857 or German works council processes, not just employment law. The site has no country guide written only for HR roles; the UK and Germany CV format guides cover layout, photo and personal-details rules for those markets.

Where this page stops
- Payroll-only roles need payroll software and statutory filing detail that this page does not cover.
- Marketing a company as an employer (employer branding campaigns) overlaps with the marketing guide.
- If you are moving into HR from sales, the sales guide shows how to keep target lines that still matter for recruiting.
Next steps
- Run the twelve-month report and write each figure with its period and denominator.
- Decide whether the posting wants a generalist or a recruiter and order your bullets to match.
- Add a Systems line under every role.
- Write qualifications with their exact name, level and year.
- Name the country whose employment law you know.
CitedCV can turn those figures into a CV in English, Turkish or German; each line keeps a link to the fact you entered, and numbers are checked against what you gave it.
Questions people ask
What HR metrics should I put on my CV?
Roles filled, median time to fill, offer acceptance with the raw counts, source of hire and probation leavers, each with the period and the size of the organisation.
How do I write an HR CV with no HR experience?
Lead with the route you are taking (an HR apprenticeship, a CIPD Foundation Certificate or a related degree), then transferable work with counts: rotas, onboarding, complaints handled.
Should I put CIPD on my CV if I am still studying?
Yes, as long as it is labelled in progress with an expected completion date. Write the exact qualification name and level, not just CIPD.
Is SHRM or CIPD better for my CV?
It depends on the market: CIPD grades appear in UK adverts and SHRM certifications in US ones. List whichever you hold, written in full.
What is the difference between an HR generalist and an HR specialist CV?
A generalist CV spreads across recruitment, pay, relations and policy, while a specialist or recruiter CV goes deep on one area with heavier numbers there.
How do I list HRIS skills on a resume?
Name the product and module, then the task: SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central, monthly headcount reporting. A logo list without tasks proves little.
Can I mention disciplinary cases on an HR CV?
Only as counts and categories, such as twelve conduct cases closed within procedure. Never names, outcomes for individuals or settlement amounts.
