Resume.io alternative: what you can download, and when to decide

Useful Resume.io alternatives are FlowCV for free PDFs, Reactive Resume for free Word files, Novoresume for paying without renewal and CitedCV for DOCX on every template. Decide within seven days: Resume.io's help centre allows refunds only in that window.1

Written 13 October 2026. CitedCV. How we write our guides

The seven-day clock, from Resume.io's help centre

Resume.io's pricing page returned a server error each time we tried it on 13 October 2026, so this page does not quote its prices. The help centre, which did load, explains the timing in detail, and timing is what decides whether you pay more than the trial fee. Its billing article also says pricing plans can vary by location.

WhenWhat happens, per the help centre
Sign-upThe refund window opens; timing is counted from the exact timestamp of sign-up, not in business days
Days 1 to 7Trial with premium access; you can cancel during the trial
End of day 7An uncancelled trial becomes a premium subscription billed every 4 weeks
After day 7No refund, even if no premium features were used
Every 28 daysThe subscription renews, counted from the moment the first payment was processed
After you cancelPremium access continues for 30 days after the last monthly payment, or 7 days after the last trial payment
Six-month or yearly planDoes not renew automatically; it moves to the free plan when the term ends

Two ways to cancel

The help centre describes a cancel form that needs no login: on the contact page, choose the Cancel Subscription tab, find your account by email and confirm through the email that follows. Inside the app, Account Settings has the cancel and downgrade options. A successful cancellation sends a confirmation email; the help centre warns that choosing a subscription extension in the flow is not a cancellation.

Pausing instead of cancelling

If you only need a break, the help centre says you can pause and unpause your account once, with no time limit on the pause. Few builders offer that, and it is worth knowing before you leave.

What each Resume.io plan lets you download

FormatFree planPremium
TXTYesYes
PDFIts articles differ: one says TXT only, another also allows a PDF in the Vancouver templateUnlimited, in 30 or more templates
DOCX (Word)NoOnly in some templates: Stockholm, New York, Sydney, Dublin and the ATS set Athens, Brussels, Prague and Shanghai

Two help articles disagree on the free plan. The one on downloading to Word or PDF says free users can download only TXT; the one on using Resume.io for free says a PDF in the Vancouver template is included too. If the free PDF matters to you, try the download before you write the whole CV.

Why the Word file matters here

A recruitment agency or an employer may ask for a CV they can edit. On Resume.io that means premium and one of the eight templates the help centre names. When you choose a template, check the list first; a design you like may only give you a PDF. The PDF or Word page explains when each format is the better one to send.

What Resume.io does well

Premium, by its help centre, includes more than 30 recruiter-tested templates, unlimited resumes and cover letters, unlimited PDF downloads, a job tracker, AI interview preparation, a first-90-day plan and career pathways. Four templates are presented as built for applicant tracking systems. The six-month and yearly plans do not renew by themselves, and the one-time pause is a considerate option. Downgrading keeps the documents you made while premium downloadable, the cancellation article says.

Four alternatives, sorted by what you need to download

FlowCV, if a free PDF is enough

FlowCV lets one resume and one cover letter download as PDF without limit on its free plan, in any of its templates and without a watermark. It does not run a trial, so there is no day-7 conversion. Its limits: the pages we read offer no Word download, and a second saved resume needs Pro, which is billed yearly and renews; FlowCV allows a refund within 14 days of buying it.

Reactive Resume, if you need Word without paying

Reactive Resume says every feature is free, including PDF and Word downloads in all 17 of its templates, and adds Markdown and JSON exports so your data can move to another copy of the app. It is open source and can run on your own server. Its limits: fewer templates than Resume.io, no interview or career tools of the kind Resume.io bundles, and AI help only with your own provider key.

Novoresume, if you want to pay once

Novoresume sells Premium for a fixed month, quarter or year and states that it does not renew. Its terms give consumers 14 days from purchase to cancel and claim a refund, twice Resume.io's window. Its limits: documents are saved only as PDF, the free plan allows one one-page resume, and users must be at least 18.

CitedCV, if you want DOCX on every template

CitedCV is our product, so this is our own account of it. All 8 of its templates export PDF, DOCX and TXT, and each PDF and DOCX export is read back by a text extractor and compared with the CV it should carry. Its limits: the templates are single column with little design choice, the CV is written only from facts you give it, so it asks questions before it writes, and building costs credits after the 6 at signup. Credits come in one-time packs, from 30 credits for $9, paid once with no renewal and no expiry.

When Resume.io is still the better fit

  • You want interview preparation and career planning tools in the same account as the CV.
  • You prefer a six-month or yearly plan that ends by itself rather than renewing.
  • You need breaks between job searches and the one-time pause suits you.
  • You like one of the eight templates that export to Word and want both formats from one design.

Limits of this comparison

  • Resume.io facts come from its help centre, read on 13 October 2026; its pricing page returned a server error, so no Resume.io price appears here.
  • Some help articles show only an Edited label with no date, and two of them disagree on the free PDF. We report both.
  • We did not buy plans or run cancellations. Facts about the other tools come from their own pages, read the same day; CitedCV facts come from its code.
  • Zety runs a similar trial model with a 14-day trial; the Zety alternative page sets out its terms.
