How to apply through SAP SuccessFactors with your CV
To apply through SAP SuccessFactors, you create an account on the employer's career site, upload a CV that Textkernel parses into profile fields, and correct those fields before submitting. SAP says parsing isn't always 100% accurate.1

Signs you are on a SuccessFactors form, and what to have ready
SAP SuccessFactors Recruiting is the hiring module of SAP's HR suite. Each employer runs its own career site on it, so the colours and the job texts change, but the skeleton stays. SAP's standard test scripts describe the screens a candidate meets: a 'Career Opportunities: Sign In' page, a 'How would you like to proceed?' box offering Resume or Manual, and a Data Privacy Consent Statement you accept before entering any data.
Five things to prepare before you click Apply now
- An email address you will keep. The account belongs to that address, and SAP's check for existing external candidates matches on email.
- Your CV as a DOCX as well as a PDF. SAP's parsing page names DOCX, PPT and TXT plus TIFF, JPG, BMP and GIF images, and does not list PDF. The PDF or Word guide explains why the layout inside the file matters more than the extension.
- A cover letter file, if the job asks for one. It goes into its own box, separate from the CV.
- Dates, permits and figures you may be asked in prescreening questions, so you answer them the same way on every application.
- Five minutes to read the employer's privacy statement. SAP's consent page says candidates must accept it before entering their data.
Three routes through a SuccessFactors application
SAP's test scripts (version 2H 2026) say that what follows Apply now depends on two things: whether you already have an account with that employer, and whether the employer switched on quick apply for that job.
| Route | You get it when | What you fill in | Afterwards |
|---|---|---|---|
| Quick apply | You are new and the job has quick apply on | One page holding the account fields and the application; a CV from your device, Dropbox or Google Drive; an optional cover letter; the privacy statement | An account now exists, so for the next job you sign in first |
| Create an account | You are new and quick apply is off | Email twice, password twice, first and last name, country or region of residence, optional alert boxes, the privacy statement; then the profile steps below | A success message and a confirmation email |
| Sign in | You already have an account with this employer | Sign in, update the stored profile, then the job-specific steps | Same as above |
The steps inside the full application
- Getting Started: choose Resume and browse to your file, or choose Manual and type everything.
- Profile Information: the fields marked with a red asterisk, plus phone, province or state and postal code.
- Outside Work Experience: one entry per job, filled from your CV if it parsed.
- Job-Specific Information: employment questions and any country-specific section the employer added.
- Additional Information: the cover letter upload, Formal Education, Language Skills, Geographic Mobility and the prescreening questions.
- Review: read every step once, then choose Apply. A success message appears and a confirmation email follows.
With Mobile Apply switched on, SAP merges the profile and the application into one page and shows shared fields once. An employer can also hide optional fields on handheld phones, so the form on your phone may be shorter than on a laptop.
When the employer created your profile for you
Recruiters can mass-upload CVs. SAP says a candidate created that way receives an email with the subject 'You have been entered into the recruiting candidate database' and must reset the initial password. The CV is already stored, so before you apply, open the profile and read what the parser put in each field.
Field-by-field check after the parse
SAP's page on configuring resume parsing prints the candidate-profile fields an external candidate may write to. The table follows that list. The right-hand column is our advice on what to change in the CV itself, so the next upload comes out cleaner.
| Profile field in SAP | Filled from | Check on screen | Change in the CV |
|---|---|---|---|
| First name, last name, known as | The top line | Two given names split correctly; letters such as ş, ğ or ü intact | Name alone on the first line, in the body of the page |
| Contact email, cell phone | The contact line | One email; phone with country code | Email and phone as plain text, not in a header or icon row |
| Address, city, state, zip, country | The contact line | City and country in their own fields | Write the city and country together, e.g. 'Izmir, Türkiye' |
| Outside Work Experience | Experience | One entry per job; employer, title and dates in the right columns | Title, employer and dates on adjacent lines, one date format |
| Formal Education | Education | Degree, school and dates matched | The degree as the university names it, with an English gloss for an English-language job |
| Certificates | Certifications | Issuer and date present | One certificate per line with issuer and year |
| Languages | Languages | Each language once, with a level | One language per line, level in words or as a CEFR level |
| Resume, cover letter | Your uploads | The current files are attached, not an older copy | File names with your name and the role |
Uploading a newer CV: keep or overwrite
SAP's candidate-side parsing page says that when you upload a newer CV from your profile, a confirmation screen asks whether to keep the current profile or overwrite it with what the new file yields. Overwrite when the stored profile is out of date and you have time to re-read every field. Keep it when you already corrected the fields by hand, because an overwrite brings back whatever the parser reads. One exception: on a Mobile Apply site, SAP says parsing fills only empty fields and does not override values already there, so an old phone number stays until you edit it yourself.
What SAP's own pages say, read on 13 October 2026
| Statement | SAP page (2H 2026) |
|---|---|
| You upload a CV under Candidate Profile, My Profile; an acceptance message shows when it parsed | Working with Resume Parsing |
| Formats named for parsing: DOCX, PPT, TXT, and TIFF, JPG, BMP and GIF images | Working with Resume Parsing |
| Parsing is done by the third-party software Textkernel, whose site lists the supported languages | Working with Resume Parsing |
| 'Resume parsing isn't always 100% accurate. This is a known limitation.' | Configuring Resume Parsing |
| A candidate created through the API is not parsed | Configuring Resume Parsing |
| With Mobile Apply, parsing fills empty fields only | Configuring Mobile Apply |
| Failing prescreening questions moves an application to Auto-Disqualified | Additional Statuses |
Every employer configures its own system through SAP or an implementation partner, so a given form may show more fields, fewer steps or a different wording. The pages describe what the software does, not what every employer turned on.
A Turkish CV in SuccessFactors
SAP's candidate-side parsing page sends readers to Textkernel for the supported languages, and Textkernel's list includes Turkish, alongside German, French, Dutch and every variant of English. Textkernel adds that language support varies by data-centre region: its Japan region parses only English and Japanese. A separate SAP page for administrators on configuring parsing prints its own shorter list, which does not name Turkish; SAP's pages do not reconcile the two. In practice: Turkish is among the languages of the parser SuccessFactors names, and whatever the language, you read the parsed fields before you submit.
Which language to upload
Upload the CV in the language of the job advertisement. For an English-language role at a multinational, that means an English CV even if the employer's office is in Istanbul; the person reading it may not read Turkish, whatever the parser can do. Keep the Turkish version for Turkish-language postings.
Prescreening questions and withdrawing
Answers can disqualify automatically; the CV does not
SAP's page on applicant statuses says recruiters can attach prescreening questions with disqualifying answers or a passing score, and an applicant who fails is placed in Auto-Disqualified. The same page says there is presently no way to auto-disqualify applicants based on application data. So in SuccessFactors itself, the automatic 'no' comes from your answers to those questions, not from your CV layout. Answer them exactly and the same way each time.
Withdrawing and resubmitting
- You can withdraw any application that has not been disqualified, at any time; it moves to Withdrawn By Candidate.
- You can resubmit a withdrawn application only while the job is still posted.
- On resubmission your prescreening answers are evaluated again, so the result can change if you answer differently.
Who this page does not help
- You want to know how one employer ranks applicants. SAP's pages describe parsing and statuses; the ranking and reading are the employer's own process.
- You apply as an internal employee. SAP describes a separate internal career site where employees apply without creating another account.
- Your form looks nothing like the steps above. The employer may have changed the flow; follow what is on screen and check the fields the same way.
Next steps
If the fields came out badly, run the two-minute paste test on the resume-not-parsing page before your next application, and use the ATS-friendly CV checklist to fix the layout once. CitedCV is one option if you would rather rebuild: it writes the CV from your own facts in a single-column template and exports PDF, DOCX and TXT, and its review page gives the plain text in parser reading order for forms where you type or paste. Whatever you use, upload, read the fields, then apply.
Questions people ask
Does SAP SuccessFactors read PDF resumes?
Its parsing page does not list PDF: it names DOCX, PPT and TXT plus TIFF, JPG, BMP and GIF images. The upload box shows what the employer accepts; if you have both, upload the DOCX and check the fields.
Can SuccessFactors read a Turkish CV?
Turkish is on the language list of Textkernel, the parser SAP's parsing page names, though support varies by data-centre region. Read the parsed fields before you submit, as you would for an English CV.
Why did SuccessFactors put my details in the wrong fields?
SAP itself says resume parsing isn't always 100% accurate. Columns, tables and contact details in a header are the usual causes; correct the fields on screen, then fix the layout before the next upload.
Do I need a new account for every company using SuccessFactors?
Yes, as a rule. SAP's scripts describe an account on the external career site of the company, so each employer's site has its own login and stored profile.
Can I apply on SuccessFactors without uploading a CV?
Yes. The Getting Started step offers Manual as well as Resume, and SAP's scripts say every profile field can be filled by hand. Some employers make the CV upload mandatory, which the form will mark.
Does SuccessFactors reject applications automatically?
Only through prescreening questions, according to SAP: failing answers move an application to Auto-Disqualified. SAP says there is presently no way to auto-disqualify based on application data.
Will uploading a new CV erase my SuccessFactors profile?
No, not without asking. SAP shows a confirmation screen to keep the current profile or overwrite it with the new file. On Mobile Apply sites, parsing fills only empty fields.
How do I withdraw a SuccessFactors application?
Choose Withdraw Application in the list of your applications on the career site. It works for any application not yet disqualified, and you can resubmit only while the job is posted.
