Applying through Recruitee or Teamtailor: what happens to your CV

Both give each job its own form on the employer's careers site. The employer decides whether a CV is required, optional or hidden, which questions can stop you, and whether AI screening reads your CV against its criteria.1

Written 13 October 2026. CitedCV. How we write our guides

Which of the two you are applying through

Recruitee, whose help centre now calls it Tellent Recruitee, and Teamtailor both put the application form on the employer's own careers site rather than on a job board. A few signs from their help centres tell them apart.

  • Recruitee: careers sites live at company.recruitee.com unless the employer uses its own domain, and a job's form opens at the job address followed by /c/new.
  • Teamtailor: emails come from addresses ending in teamtailor-mail.com, such as no-reply@[company-name].teamtailor-mail.com.
  • Teamtailor: a 'Connect' button at the top of the careers site and a 'Data & privacy' link in the footer.
  • Teamtailor employers can send the Apply button to another system's form, so a Teamtailor job ad does not always mean a Teamtailor form.

The first thing to do

Read the whole form before typing. Both systems let the employer mark fields required, optional or hidden, and Teamtailor puts the job questions before your personal details, so the CV upload may sit at the end rather than the start.

The two forms side by side

From each vendor's help centre, read on 13 October 2026. These are the options the software gives employers; a single job uses only some of them.

Co-pilot is Teamtailor's paid add-on, which its privacy page says runs on OpenAI's GPT models. Recruitee's Screening Assistant is switched on under its Tellent Intelligence settings, and only screens people who apply through the careers site form. An employer has to switch each one on.

Steps that work on either system

  1. Scroll to the end of the form first and list what it asks for: CV, cover letter, photo, files, questions.
  2. Upload the CV as its own file. Put the cover letter in its own field if there is one.
  3. Answer knockout or qualifying questions truthfully; a wrong answer can end the application at once.
  4. Use the same dates, titles and employer names in your answers as in the CV, since AI screening on both systems reads the answers next to the CV.
  5. Keep the confirmation page or email, and on Teamtailor sign up through Connect if you want to edit the application later.

When a qualifying question stops you

On Teamtailor, answering No to a must-answer-Yes question shows a message at once and blocks the rest of the form. On Recruitee, a knockout answer assigns a disqualify reason, and Recruitee warns employers that an automated rule such as a rejection email triggers right after you apply. A fast rejection email is that rule, not a person's verdict on your CV.

One PDF with everything in it

Recruitee's troubleshooting page describes CVs uploaded as one file holding the CV, the motivation letter and recommendations. The whole document is parsed, and another email address in it, such as a referee's, can be picked up as yours. Send the CV alone in the CV field.

Changing an application after you send it

Teamtailor's candidate article says that in your Connect dashboard you can edit an application while it is still in 'Inbox' status and the company has not processed it: the resume, cover letter, answers and additional files. The Recruitee pages read do not describe a candidate edit; write to the employer instead.

What their help pages say about CVs the parser misses

Recruitee's page 'Why was my candidate's CV not parsed correctly?' (dated 30 May 2024) says it uses third-party parsing software and lists what it checks when a CV fails:

  • Is it a Word, PDF or ODT file?
  • Can you highlight the text, especially the email address?
  • Was a standard, web-safe font used, such as Arial or Times New Roman?
  • Is the email address in the header or footer?
  • If the CV was scanned, is it searchable? Is the document protected?

It adds that highly visual CVs are the usual case of a document the parser cannot read, and that a CV with no email address sent to a job inbox is not recognised at all. Teamtailor's Co-pilot page (dated 27 August 2026) lists what it extracts; its candidate screening page shows a dash, with reasoning, when information is missing or ambiguous, so a recruiter decides. For the general fixes, use the resume parsing guide rather than a second copy here.

Pages read on 13 October 2026

  • Recruitee: application form per job (15 July 2026), upload and parse CVs, CV not parsed correctly (30 May 2024), Screening Assistant (24 March 2026), anonymous candidates (21 July 2026), careers site URL.
  • Teamtailor: smooth application experience, redirect to an external form, Connect profile, request to be removed, data request, approved senders (1 September 2026 for the candidate pages), Co-pilot resume parser, candidate screening and request missing info (27 August 2026), Co-pilot privacy.

Emails you may get after applying

A short questionnaire from Teamtailor

If an employer uses Co-pilot's 'Request missing info', you may receive a questionnaire asking for what your application lacks: unanswered questions, details needed for its screening criteria, phone, address, LinkedIn or a resume. If the resume is missing, it asks for that first. Teamtailor says it will not ask for age, nationality, marital status, health or other information that cannot lawfully support a hiring decision, so a message asking for those is worth questioning.

Keeping the emails out of spam

Teamtailor's candidate page suggests a filter for '.teamtailor-mail.com' so messages from recruiters reach your inbox. Recruiter messages come from [firstname].[lastname]@[company-name].teamtailor-mail.com.

Asking for your data or its removal

Teamtailor: 'Request my data' and 'Remove my data' sit in the careers site footer, in the employer's emails and in Connect; a copy arrives as a .zip download. Recruitee employers can put removal and correction request links in their email footer. On both, the request goes to the employer.

What this comparison cannot tell you

  • Which options a given employer switched on. The form you see is the only evidence; neither vendor publishes a customer's settings.
  • Teamtailor's file list comes from the Co-pilot screening page; its candidate pages give no upload limits. Recruitee's list comes from the recruiter upload page, not the candidate form.
  • How either AI weighs a criterion. The help pages describe inputs and outputs, not scoring internals.
  • Hiring decisions. Both vendors describe their AI as support for the hiring team, with manual override.

Next steps

  • Test your file with the paste test in the resume parsing guide, and pick the format with the PDF or Word guide.
  • If you are worried about AI screening, read the page on opting out of AI resume screening before you apply.
  • Hidden text meant for an AI is flagged by tools like Teamtailor Co-pilot; the page on resume prompt injection explains why it backfires.
  • To rebuild a highly visual CV as a plain one, CitedCV writes one from the facts you give it, in single-column templates with standard headings, and exports PDF, DOCX or TXT.

Questions people ask

Do I need an account to apply on Recruitee or Teamtailor?

Usually not: the help pages read describe a form per job on the careers site and mention no login step. Teamtailor's Connect profile is optional and signs you in by an emailed link if you chose email.

Is the CV required on a Recruitee application?

It depends on the employer. Recruitee lets each job set the CV or resume field to required, optional or hidden; only full name and email are always included.

Can I edit my Teamtailor application after submitting?

Yes, while it is still in 'Inbox' status and unprocessed. In your Connect dashboard you can change the resume, cover letter, answers and additional files.

Why did I get rejected right after applying on Recruitee?

Probably a knockout question. Recruitee lets employers attach a disqualify reason to an answer, and an automated rule such as a rejection email can trigger immediately after you apply.

Does Teamtailor use AI to screen my CV?

Only if the employer has switched on the Co-pilot add-on. Its candidate screening checks your resume, cover letter and answers against the employer's criteria, and recruiters can override each result.

Can candidates see Recruitee Screening Assistant results?

No. Recruitee's help page states that candidates won't see the criteria or the results. The assistant also ignores name, age, contact details, social links, gender and nationality.

Which CV file types does Recruitee read?

PDF, DOC, DOCX, ODT, RTF and TXT, plus JPG and PNG images of a CV, on its CV upload page. A PDF or DOCX with selectable text is still the safer choice.

How do I delete my data from a Teamtailor employer?

Use 'Remove my data' in the careers site's Data & privacy footer, in an email from the company, or in Connect, then confirm through the email Teamtailor sends.
